In the last newsletter someone mentioned 'forced marches'.
A number of months before JFK was killed he had this obsession with physical fitness. The end result was that every combat outfit was ordered to be able to march 50 miles in under 10 hours, in full battle gear. Can't be done? BS all the way, and yes, it can be done.
I Co. 3rd. Blt, Second Marines did it in less than 9.5 hours at Camp LeJune in the summer of 1963. (Thank God that our CO scheduled the event during the night time hours, to avoid the heat) Later that year we were on a beach in Aranchi Bay, Spain, when we got the news of JFK's assassination.
