Just a note of remembrance to all my Marine friends. I joined the corps just after my 18th B-day. My B-day is March 21st 1951, i joined March 25th 1969. By Sept "69" I was with the 3rd Bn. 7th Mar. in Viet Nam. On March 20th "70" the day before my 19th B-day I was wounded in a land mine explosion outside LZ Baldy. I stayed in the Corps until Dec. 1978.
My first born son Mikie was born the year before I enlisted. Upon Graduation of High School Mikie enlisted in the Marines. He was with C CO. 1st Plt. 1st Bn. 5th Mar. on operation Team Spirit in Korea when he was killed in a helo accident exactly nineteen years to the day when I was wounded in Vietnam – March 20th 1989.
Michael A. Depew L/cpl USMC was and still is my hero, my frist born son and a good Marine. As the anneversity of the accident approches My and my wife Linda, hearts go out to all the men killed and wounded on that day. We know the pain and loss we all feel. May God bless .
