4th Annual GriTogether was a lot of fun!
We had more Marines and Family Members than ever! If you missed it this time, be sure to stop by next year! Here’s some of what you missed….
History Displays
Living History Display
GySgt Red Millis, Curator of the Marine Corps Legacy Museum in Harrison, Arkansas brought his “Living History” Display. Everyone was able to experience first hand items from WWII Gear, a WWII campsite, 1775 Revolutionary War Display, and even a Roman Marine Display.

Flag Raising at Iwo Jima Reenactment courtesy of the Marine Corps Legacy Museum
Four Young Marines from Sooner Detachment-OKC, Joshua Collins from Colorado, and George Fleming from Alabama participated in this phenominal re-enactment of the flag raising at Iwo Jima. Two Young Marines also gave a very accurate oral history in their own words about this famous event.
The flag itself was a WWII flag, accurate in size to the original flag raising. And also accurate was the desire of the Marines to raise the flag (not concerned too much with flag ettiquite).
Contests
Tattoo Contest
Winner of the Tattoo Contest was Rob MCCarthy with his OUTSTANDING Bulldog. It was a close call though, as we had several other great submissions.

Pull Up Contest
The Recruiters tent held pull-up contests throughout the day for different age groups. We even had a WWII Marine do a pull up!

Oldest/Youngest Marine Contest
Youngest Marine present was 20 years old and the oldest Marine was 86! They were awarded a plaque donated by Bill Weiler and a Ka-Bar courtesy of Sgt Grit.

Marine Quality Time
Veteran Groups
We had hundreds of Marines in attendance, and we managed to get a few of them together for some group photos.

Major transformations took place this year. Who can say no to a free high and tight – courtesty of Barber John O’Hair of O’Hairs in Bethany, Oklahoma.

A young Marine is supervised during his High and Tight. He doesn’t look worried!
This Marine (right) was getting ready for Memorial Day events with a new haircut…
