Operation Iraqi Freedom
by Esther M.
Sgt Grit,
I wrote this poem after reading A Table In The Presence, by Chaplain Carey H. Cash of the United States Marines.
Esther M.
A tribute to the men of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment
There was a cause,
The cause was just;
For freedom twas,
And fight they must.
Their mission was to save a land,
They couldn?t just go back,
?Til it was saved from tyrant?s hand.
That land is called Iraq.
Saddam Hussein had terrorized
Iraqian citizens.
United Nations he despised,
And gave them smirking grins.
Battalion One, the ?Front-lines Guy?,
Marines 5th Regiment,
Their motto was, ?Make Peace or Die!?
They sure could not relent.
These were men of the truest sense,
Not like Fadayeens who,
Used as their shields civilians,
And did it, not with rue.
Marines, whereas, would willingly
For fellow soldier die.
They, brave as Edmund Hillary,
In danger wouldn?t fly.
Second Lieutenant Shane Childers,
Gunnery Sergeant Bohr,
Faithful, they passed through death?s dark rivers,
Ent?ring Heaven?s door.
The many soldiers listened while,
The Chaplains shared God?s Word,
They were convicted of their guile,
And to salvation spurred.
It was their faith that kept them brave,
Along the Baghdad streets,
Where many home and peace did crave,
And fire rained down in sheets.
Marines saw God?s almighty hand
Work many miracles,
A Bible found midst drifts of sand,
And myst?ry vehicles.
These seasoned soldiers of the Corps.,
When did the gunfire cease,
Saw twasn?t they that won the war,
It was the Prince of Peace.
