Me and Bill C. at the Dirty Name, the first obstacle on the Parris Island confidence course on the day we graduated from platoon 374 in the Fall of 1960. Hard to believe that was 56 years ago. In my mind we haven’t changed much since then. Don’t know if we can still do 20 pull ups, but we can still lock and load and put them in the black at 500 yards.
Ship me over Sergeant Major!

In the black! I’m not sure you can say that anymore. Bill 0331
Parris Island Oct-Dec 73 Plt 395 India Co 3rd Bn. Same here I can not do 20 pull ups, 80 situps, 3 miles in 18 minutes. BUT being from West Virginia I can put the rounds in black with no problem, at 65 yrs old. Semper Fi
Parris Island platoon 2020 1958. Okinawa 3 rd Maines HEadquaters battalion . Anglico12 Air and Naval Gunfire. I can still hit the black Semper Fi Marines! Cpl E4 Mike Sirianni
Ya’ll are lucky. I can’t even see a target at 500 yards with iron sights. I must be getting old.

I went thru boot from June 11 1970. If memory is right of 73 boots only 17 experts were handed out, no brag I was lucky I got one with 2 in the black at 500 yards. Today I can’t see 500 yards. You guys are doing pretty good.
Say, Harry if your reading this, have you ever seen a mistake on a promotion sheet, of the 4 I have two with mistakes. Thanks
The only mistake I ever saw was when they promoted me to E-5. Big mistake! Became eligible for early release a couple weeks later ( 14-Aug-1970) and took it! Harry
Semper Fi jarhead thank you for blazing a path for me to graduate in ply. 2022
Going through and reading all the political incorrect racist crap . “Hit the black!” Come on! Harvey
No offense brothers, but 50+ years ago when taking aim on the Able target , it bothered me. Black sillowet image to shoot!
So sorry man, had no idea! Bill 0331
It was truly an experience. i went in under the “Aviation Guarantee” program. A 4 year program with the guarantee of a field in Aviation. I was the Guide for Plt. 1023. (9/3/69 thru 19/3/73). I was a Jet Engine Tech, attended NAS Millington. I was in the 1st Marine Air Wing (MAW). Spent time in Okinawa, Japan, Manilla Phillipines, Beinwa, Vietnam and Cherry Point, NC. I serviced the F-4 and the C-130.
