Marine Sgt. Jon McDonald had more in mind Friday than simply seeing the spectacular view from the Brooklyn Bridge.
With three deployments in Iraq under his belt, and a Purple Heart on his chest, McDonald chose the site to be sworn in for a third enlistment with the Marines – one that will see him deployed to Afghanistan before the end of the year.
“I was in my senior year of high school when 9/11 went down, and I've been wanting to go to Afghanistan ever since,” he said. “It's been nearly 10 years now, so I finally get a chance to go.”
