Marine Wedding
Marine Wedding
My son, Marine Captain Daniel J. Meyers, was married on 7 March 2010 in Winter Park, Florida. His Marine buddies were a remarkable contribution to the wedding from participating in the wedding party to the sword detail down to their rendition of the song “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” from the movie TOP GUN (you’ll note Cpls to a BGen) that they sang to the bride (Mrs. Lindsey Cleary Meyers). It was as beautiful an event as it was fun! The sword detail, commanded by GySgt Jason Eckman conducted a flawless “arch of swords” and a barked “welcome to the Marine Corps, Mrs. Meyers,” with a swat and sound that would have made a DI from PI very proud!

Sgt. Grit,
First: would like to say that as of February 3, 2010, our youngest, a daughter, is smack in the middle of her training to becoming a U.S. Marine. I?m busting with pride that she chose to go MARINE! We look forward to her letters and to the day when we will see her again, to once again let her know how proud her mom and I are, along with her entire family for her wiliness to earn the right to wear the EGA.

Before I Went To Boot Camp
Before I Went To Boot Camp
I joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 5/5/55. Before I went into boot camp July 3, 1956, I had two weeks of training in July of 1955. During the first week we were at Coronado Navy Base/UDT, which is the base that the SEAL’s train today in California. We trained for amphibious landings after lots of classes. We went down to the beach and loaded on to LCM’s and went to the APA, attack transport, which was anchored several miles off shore. We climbed the cargo nets with all of our equipment.

My GYSGT
SGT Grit & Jar heads,
Starting out in life I guess I was destine to be in the Marine family.
I regretfully could never follow in my namesakes foot steps. (Born with a hip problem, I was not military material.) I was born 11/1970 and named after my Uncle Gerald “Jerry” Przybylinski,(CPL BTRY H12 MAR 3 MAR DIV VIETNAM PH {DOB 11-10-48 DOD 2-25-69}) who was killed in ‘Nam as he was on a communications tower. There are several heroic stories of how he was killed … but to me it doesn’t matter.. he is, as all Marines, a hero. His best friend in the corp became my Dad, Jimmy Joe Shelton. (I have no memory of him and just found out he is a Marine and still alive, I think).
Wounded Warrior Run
Wounded Warrior Run
New Braunfels and Canyon Lake, TX
On September 19, 2009, the second annual 17.2 Mile Wounded Warrior Run was held in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The run/race began in a light rain, however, it ended on a sunny morning. The course consisted of many curves, with some hills, as it stretched along the beautiful Guadalupe River (home of the finest river tubing in Texas). This year we added a Military Trophy for the military team who would place first in the event. Being Marines, we assembled our military ?team? the night before (we wanted to ?adapt and overcome?) and we almost took the trophy home!
We placed 2nd (of military teams), 3rd place over all, of twenty nine teams, with an outstanding time of 1:57:57. Our team consisted of ?salty? Marines (in their 40?s and 50?s), L ? R, Sgt. Scott Glazener,
MSgt Oscar Gutierrez, Sgt. James Eastland (in the orange shirt and the ?race coordinator?), MGySgt Joe Sepulveda, Sgt Diaz (the youngester of the team) and SSgt R.A.Ramirez.
