Did General Conway Finally Cross The Line And Anger The Obama Administration?
The scuttlebutt is that Marine Commandant James T. Conway may have gotten himself into more than a little bit of trouble with his recent attacks on the Obama Administration’s policies regarding both Afghanistan and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. His recent public remarks have gone after those two policies rather harshly, and there is a feeling that it may be time for the General to fade away a bit sooner rather than in October when he is suppose to depart and be replaced by General James Amos. Marine General Shoots Straight on Gays in the Military
The overwhelming majority of Marines oppose sharing sleeping quarters with openly serving gays and lesbians, an obstacle if Congress lifts the ban on gays in the U.S. military, the top Marine said on Tuesday.
Marine Corps Commandant General James Conway, a vocal opponent of ending the military’s 17-year-old ban on openly serving homosexuals, told Pentagon reporters of the standing policy: “We’d just as soon not see it change.”
Most US Marines don’t want gay roommates: general
The top US Marine on Tuesday said most Marines would prefer not to share a room with gay comrades, despite plans by President Barack Obama to lift a ban on gays serving openly in the military.
General James Conway, who has made clear his opposition to ending the ban, said if the law is changed the Marine Corps might look for volunteers willing to share quarters with gays as some “very religious” members objected to rooming with homosexuals.  Full Article
