The Next Best Cake Cutter
So up here in the Northern part of A'stan (Jalalabad), the Veteran Marines outnumbered all eight of the uniformed, but we celebrated anyway, graciously arranged by MAJ Copeland and the local USO. The oldest CPL on hand was born in 1956, to the youngest LCPL born in 1992 (I have socks older than that!)
We had a great time, and blew the 'soldiers' out of the DFAC with our rendering of the HYMN.
Bronze Star Award
I humbly submit this to you. I'm very proud of my son.
USMC Pumpkin
My husband carved this while our son was serving in Afghanistan last year.
OORAH!
The beginning of this June I was still at my former station, FOB Lightning, ANA 203rd Thunder Corps, Gardez, Paktia Province, where several Army Rangers are stationed. I was in the line for the visit of the Finance team to get some cash, and there was a Army Ranger captain who came to join the line. Trying to show some team spirit, I gave him "Rangers Lead the Way!" to which the expected response is "All The Way!". Well I don't know why this captain was having a bad day, but the response I received was "whatever"….
Contrast this with two weeks later now stationed at FOB Fenty, Konar Province, just outside the DFAC. I was walking towards a group of three Marine Seargents. As we passed each other I said, just loud enough for them to hear: "Marines!" What response did I receive? Loud and clear, from all three, "OORAH, SIR!"
Need I say more but , Semper Fi!
Scooter in Afghanistan
Pictures that my son, "Scooter" David M. Bombard Jr., sent me from Afghanistan, I thought that you might like to see them. They are PICS that when Toby Keith (the country singer) was there and performed for the troops / Marines.

Dear Sgt. Grit,
After reading the latest news letter calling for new stories from new veterans I decided to share one my own.
It was 2010 and I was assigned to 1st Battalion 6th Marines Alpha company 2nd platoon. I was a team leader with 1st squad. February 13 found us assaulting the City of Marjah as the assault force for Operation Moshtarak.
Happy Birthday
Hello Sgt Grit,
Just doing some birthday (Nov 11th) shopping for our son serving his country. Here's a picture of our hero on his 3rd combat tour, 2nd in Afganistan.

Hello Sgt. Grit,
I wanted to write to you about a home coming the way they all should be done. LCpl Brandon Long and my son, Cpl Justin Smith, went to basic and OSI training together. After OSI they went onto separate paths. My son went to Charlie Fast 5th platoon, and Brandon went into infantry.
Home Coming
Thursday at 14:00 hours, Sargent Daniel Gurr USMC will be coming home to Vernal Utah for the last time. He was oly 21 and had a girl friend waiting for him. He died in Afghanistan serving his country.
Please lets remember him and his family in our prayers.
