Grandpa’s Gift

Sgt. Grit,   I got the greatest gift from my oldest Grandson, Nathan Gadrim. His father works on metal fabrication and worked up a Marine Corps Name Plate with my rank title and chevron along with the colors. My Marine Buddies are somewhat green with envey. I have it in my office on display.   MSgt. Dick Bowers, USMC ( Ret’d.) 1916 Euclid Ave. Zanesville, Ohio 43701

Tie Tac

Sgt. Grit,   Just wanted to submit this pic of my latest creation. I purchased this Tie Tac in the PX at Parris Island in 1967. My mother passed away and she gave me her diamond Ring that she wore for years. I got the idea of using the Diamond for a better purpose. I drilled out the Globe of our Beloved Emblem and glued in the diamond. It sure turns some heads as it glows like it’s on fire. The picture doesn’t do it justice. I am really proud of it. Everyone wants to buy one and my reply is that, This is one of a kind just like the Corps. Civilians don’t get it and they never will.   “Semper Fidelis”   MSgt. Dicik Bowers, USMC Ret’d.

Proud To Be Enlisted

Sgt. Grit,
I am writing this letter to say that i am newly enlisted in the USMC (040716) and I am seventeen years-old. I have been wanting to be a Marine since i was in 8th grade, and I am now currently an early grad (dec 04) and I am set to ship out in feb 05. I have worked extremely hard to graduate ahead of my class so I set out to achieve my goal of claiming the title of the few and the proud. The USMC has become such a part of my life that I am now currently doing art based around the marine corps. I have enclosed a few dif. pictures of my piece entitled, "The DI Creed" I hope you enjoy these as much as my recruiter does. Thanks…Semper Fi!

Ah, the Memories of the DI!

Sgt. Grit:

Reading the letters from Marines about the "good ol' days" at boot camp, I thought back to those days of yore and remembered a couple of drawings I did shortly after graduation. I have attached them because I know Marines of all eras will be able to clearly identify with them. One is my depiction of one of my Junior DIs, Cpl J.L. Stelling. The other drawing is me receiving his, shall I say, moment of wrath? read more
