China Marines

I was 16 when I joined the Corps in 1945. On my 17th birthday, I was called to the 1st Sgt, office, and he said to me. " You are now legal Feneck get back to your duties" Looking for anyone who was in China from 1945 to 1947. I was station in Tsintoa, China with the 1st Marine Air Wing at the air field. Was radio/radar tech in VMR 152 and 153. The attach photo is me on the left and Papas on the right. Papas passed away last year, he was a good Marine. There are not to many World War 2 Vets left. They say over 900 a day pass away. The Marines are ordered to guard the gates and streets of Heaven. read more

Fired On The Hucks

Ref: Newsletter 5/23/13 "Cold War" by Donald J Patterson. I too served in the Cold War era. Knowing my Marine brothers, I feel that few, if any, think lesser of those who served in the Cold War era.

I'm 76 years of age and still have vivid memories of the men I served with and the jobs we did. "Operation Strong Back" was a Cold War operation at the behest of the Philippine government. The 12th Marines went into the field and fired on the HUCKS (commies) up in the mountains. You will not find any written matter about it, but it did happen. read more

Leadership and Reflection

I am a Former recruiter out of OkSouth/Norman and have been back in the Fleet Marine Force for over a year now since leaving Oklahoma. If there is one thing you could ask me that I have missed about Oklahoma I'd say it would be Oklahoma Football and the Sgt Grit Staff… Nowhere in my career have I met such a wonderful extended family, whom are so dedicated to taking care of the Marines and our Beloved Corps values. I have been on deployment overseas now for 5 months and just received a package from Sgt Grit… It was not only packed absolutely perfectly, but filled with shirts, coins and a few other things that have been passed out to the locals in the country and our Marines. The package has boosted Morale and the Marines have enjoyed the things you have sent to us all. The package not only proved how much the Sgt Grit crew cares about the Corps and it's Marines, it proved that the spirit of being a Marine is alive and well in Sgt "Don" Grit himself. We like to say that Marines are a direct reflection of their Leadership… Well, the Sgt Grit Family has obviously gotten Leadership and reflection right the first time. I will follow Sgt Grit to the end! Thank you all for the wonderful packages that you have provided to the ones that Serve you! read more

1st Sgt Rick Blish

Another Marine entered Heaven yesterday, 4/30/2013.  1st Sgt Rick Blish (ret) was called upon to serve in another way.  I will miss my "dad" very much, but know his suffering is over.  He's back in his Blues looking as good as ever.  I know he would NOT want me upset or crying, but laughing and being the Marine he knows I am.  OOOHHH RRAAHHH Pop.  Semper Fi.  I'll see you again!  read more

My Heart Is With Them

The brothers memories are alive and well in my home and on my ranger. On a daily basis I salute them all… especially the ones we left behind who are still waiting to come home like they were promised. I was a peace time Marine, but my heart is with them. Salute to all who served and are serving… read more

Men At Prayer

This had hung in my room for years as a kid, I recently got it back after it had been misplaced after my father passed away. I have never seen it anywhere else. "A painting by Capt. A.G. Raymond, USMCR, depicts in its impressive sincerity, the worship and reverence that our fighting men carry to the very battle lines… The strength of manly character typified by the American Marine is vividly portrayed in this factual interpretation of men at prayer."   Thought that I could share it with others.   Semper Fi Bob Belles '76-'78
