This is a picture of some of the Washington County Toys For Tots team getting ready to pass out candy at the 4th of July Parade. Thank You Ralph Pallesco coordinator
Hi Sgt. Grit,
Enclosed is a photo of the front of my house on Memorial Day 2011.
The flags are arranged it that order because I am a Marine, my neighbor to the west is a Navy Vet, and my neighbor to the east is active duty Army.
My wife and I are Patriot Guard Riders and are extremely proud to be able to fly our flags.
This is a photo of SSGT Eveartt O. Givens and his granddaughter Cheyenne Harrison. The high school here in Perry Okla. had a tribute to the military for veteran's day 2009. Unknown to him she found a marine uniform and totally keeping quite about the tribute she surprised her grandpa. I think you can tell from this photo he was surprised and proud of his oldest grandchild She made sure everything was just right not a hair out of place or a shoe unpolished. She made her grandpa proud that day. This year on January 31,2011 we laid this proud marine to rest. He leaves us with heavy hearts but knowing that this marine was promoted to guard the gates of heaven.( We all had this t-shirt on at the family receving friends night.) The traditions continues with several of his nephew's becoming marines. You are missed and loved more than you ever knew.
I found this picture that was taken on Dec.24 1968. We were along the border with Laos. I'm the one in the center with glasses. I used to be called Groucho because I smoked cigars. The other guys in the picture are Mike on the left Bill next to me and Tom in the hooch. We were In Alpha Co 1/3. I lost touch with most everyone over the years. The picture brings back a lot of memories.
Some good,some bad.
Sgt. Grit:
I thought you and your readers might appreciate a photo of my two sons and thier two wives, all of whom were married within a week of one another this past Christmas while home on leave. It was the first time my sons had seen one another since Thanksgiving 2007, although during their tours in Iraq they were stationed within 10 miles of one another for a while. Wedding plans for both were moved up because my youngest son’s deployment date for Afghanistan was moved up, too. Each Marine was the other’s best man. From left to right they are Amanda Nickell and Josh Nickell and Jake Nickell and Sydnie Nickell. Josh and Amanda were married Dec. 21 at First United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN, and Jake and Sydnie were married Dec. 26 at the same church. Josh, a combat engineer, is now stationed at Edson Rifle Range at Camp Pendleton; Jake, a rifleman and radio operator, is stationed at Camp Lejeune. Among the guests attending the services was their paternal grandmother, Mrs. Joy Nickell, wife of Maj. Robert B. Nickell (deceased), who participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima in WWII.
