11th Marines bar girls

Sgt Grit,

How awesome that you actually had the photos some of the girls who worked there. I believe there were 5/6 of them. Lan, Nancy, My, i forgot the rest. They were nice and pleasant.

I was on my 3rd extension when i was asked to escort Nancy back to the states via Saigon. Sgt Kelly I think who was in Comm had already left was to meet me in California. Never got to escort Nancy, b'coz my 4th extension was approved and was sent to 13th Marines. The shows "Tiny" the manager put on were great. read more

3rd Cbt Engr Bn

Sgt Grit

I was with Support company 3rd Cbt Engr Bn at Camp Hansen Okinawa 1977-1978. Our Motor Transport platoon was called the Wacky Racers. I don't know when the platoon got its name. It was way before I arrived. The name and modified deuce and half was embroidered on our guidon. We marched to the motor pool everyday. I'm enclosing a photo of a jacket that I had made before I left Okinawa. I found the shop in kinville that actually did the embroidery work for our guidon. I couldn't believe it. Would you enclose this in your weekly newsletter? I would like to see how many other Motor T Marines stationed at 3rd Cbt Engr bn remember this. Thanks Sgt Grit read more

Marines on Navy ships

Grit,

To answer the question by Short Rounds, When the General Quarters Alarm is sounded on Naval Ships "where do the Marines Go?"

There are Marines on all Navy ships in the U.S. Fleet that are assigned to duty on that ship. From Military Police Guarding the ships, Captain and Brigg (jail) to Communications and Air, these people are called "Ships Company" they report to their combat assigned area, all other Marines are called "Embarked Troops" they report to their assigned birthing quarters or equipment bay. read more

Quonset Huts

Sgt Grit,

I was assigned to C & E Bn D Co; Basics Electronics School at San Diego MCRD May 1967; these are the remnants of the Quonset huts that remain in that area now. This picture was taken almost 40 years to the day later from when I was transferred to San Diego for school. The huts are currently used as training huts for weapons trainings. The second one is my old living quarters for 6 months until we were transferred to 29 Palms MCB in December 1967. read more
