Got a chance back in 1963 while stationed at Henderson Hall to meet Lou Lowery. He was kind enough to give me a autohgraphed copy of his famous picture. For years I never realized what a treasure I had. I have given copies to many former and active Marines and friends. It’s a shame he never got the real credit for taken the First picture on Iwo Jima. <p - and most wore their Army Blues. I got a Semper Fi from a formerly-active Marine who’s now in the Guard. At one point a Major came over to me, introduced himself and asked what rank I was. After my explanation, he asked if I could come over to meet his wife so she could see my Purple Heart. Ha! I’ve never had a request like that before – especially from a Major. Much later, the wife of another (different) Major blurted out in the middle of our conversation with a Sgt Major and his wife, “Well, I don’t care what anybody says, the Marines have the best uniforms.” With drink in hand I thanked her and tried to look humble and gracious. Then the two wives went down the list of all the times they saw Marines in Dress Blues. Damn! Yes, I was definitely covered in glory. Well, that’s enough BS for now. 🙂 OOH-RAH! A group of Marines, their wives and some friends took 12 military vehicles to Huntington West VA the weekend of July 24, 25, 26 for the 50th Anniversary of the peace treaty signing that ended the Korean War. Snuffy Country

It is interesting to read the letters of our fellow Marines of the different eras. Regarding "Name Tapes" – as a member of Platoon 130, MCRD S Diego the summer of 1961. We were issued a rubber stamp kit with pad and our names were rubber stamped on our utility blouse [first initial, middle initial, last name] immediately above the left breast pocket as well as all of the rest of our issue, in less conspicuous places, at the beginning of our basic training. read more
