I See

I see
Taylor McElroy

I see strengh, and courage
in that future marine eyes
in his hugs i feel kindness and warmth
yet i know that he is scared
i already miss him
yet he is standing right next to me

He is a marine back on leave
i see more than the world
in that marines eyes
in his hugs i feel security
yet i feel he knows that no one is safe read more

A Marine’s Recollection of a day in Vietnam

I Remember That Day
Gene Spanos

We were sitting around while reinforcing
the blast walls around the hooches that day
in charlie company area.

When all of suddenan enemy artillery round
landed over between Delta company and our
position approx 300 feet to my right at 2pm position.

It was after it hit that dust/dirt flew up in our
faces and I could not see crap. We all dove for cover too! read more

Iraq War Poem – Welcome Home

My brother John is a corporal, soon to be Sergeant, in the United States Marine Corp. John recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. It’s been one of the most difficult things my family has ever been through, and we thank God everyday for his safe return. I wrote a poem for John to show him how much we are glad he is home, and I wanted to share it with everyone. read more

Iraqi Day

Iraqi Day
by Cpl. Christopher Heckroth

The sun breaks through,
Over the Iraqi sand,
But we Marines have long since been awake,
With duty in our hearts and weapons in hand.
The day is long and tedious,
Through the wind, the sand and the sun,
But we stand strong all day long,
No rest until our jobs are done.
The Choppers again fly over,
In the distance explosions again ring true;
But we are no longer even phased,
We’ve been hardened through and through.
We’ve witnessed the SCUD’s raining down,
And seen our savior Patriot Missiles in flight,
Felt the shockwave as they’ve landed,
And have seen the artillery fire by night.
We’ve donned our chemical suits,
And hugged Mother Earth from our holes,
We’ve all silently said our last good-byes,
And yet, have persevered through it all.
We’ve mourned for our brothers who were lost,
Fighting for the country that they love,
They are the true HEROS of this war,
And now sit with God above.
As the sun sets on the horizon
We sit, and laugh and jest,
The sun is down, the air is cool;
This time of daywe like best.
We read our mail if it comes,
And think of those at home & left behind,
Wishing only to hold our loved ones close,
‘Watch over them Lord, and be kind.’
The mail all read and card games ended,
We now lay down to rest,
Tomorrow will be here all too soon,
And our country needs us to once again do and be our best. read more

As a wife , mother and grandmom
Of 3 great Marines
This talk of murder in Iraq is giving
Me screams.
They take these young men and teach them
To fight
Not telling them whether it’s
Wrong or right.
And send them off to Foreign Shores
To serve in Religious and Civil Wars.
They see friends blown up in front
Of their eyes.
They can’t tell who are
The Bad or who are the Good guys.
They all look the same and fighting
Street to street
Is a pretty tough war, it just
Ain’t neat.
So for Pete’s sake, don’t try them
If they shot the wrong one.
This kind of conflict is not much fun.
Let the Folks who sent them take the Blame,
But to try our Marines is a
Bloody Shame. read more

Invictus

Invictus
Thurman Howard

Long before facing Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima sands,
A group of warriors arose, a brave and hearty band.
Trained and learned a special art, both on land and sea,
They did because they were patriots, and for the likes of me.

They didn’t ask ‘why must we die for a purpose ill conceived?’
They go to protect our citizens from mortal threats perceived.
With a sword and musket, they honed their skills so well.
They learned of discipline and the tolling of the funeral bell. read more

In Our Hearts & Minds Back Home
by Christopher Peppas?

To every Soldier, Sailor, Warrior and Marine,
Your country called and you arrived on the scene!

It could be Bagram, Fallujah, Baghdad or Tikrit,
Fighting the sand, the grit and my God, the heat!

Doing the toughest of jobs that has to be done,
And toiling each day in the Middle Eastern sun! read more
