TATOO I GOT FOR MY SON. I AM VERY PROUD THAT MY SON JOINED THE MARINES AND IS DEFENDING THIS GREAT COUNTRY.
Why We Still Need the Marines
In Washington these days, the Defense Department is looking to cut its budget and the Marine Corps especially is reviewing its future role. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has spoken of “anxiety” that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have turned the Corps into a “second land army,” and he has cancelled major Marine weapons systems, such as the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. No institution is sacrosanct, so it's worth asking: Why should we maintain the Marine Corps in the future?

We At Home
This is a poem I wrote to put in a letter of encouragement and appreciation to a Marine in Iraq. Every single one of you is loved and missed.
We At Home
It’s hard to be a soldier in the days of war and tears,
But we at home are praying that the Lord will calm your fears.
How about I become a Marine who saves lives…
Twenty-four years ago my one and only child came into this world. Such a blessing. Back then I knew he was special, but I always tried to figure out why. Teachers from school, even his friends' parents commented on how they thought he was special, but they would just say we will know why someday. In May of 2001 the start of why he is so special happened. He walked into the recruiting military office in Woonsocket Rhode Island, straight past every military branch, until he reached the Marine Corps door, he entered and decided that this would be the path he would be honored to follow for the rest of his life. He also told the recruiter that he would certainly like to start out his Marine Career and duty with HMX One. He did just that! As his Mom you can imagine the pride I took in that.
