Pictures from 65th Anniversary of flag raising on Iwo Jima – Parade Sacaton, AZ
Sgt. Grit,
This last Saturday I had the honor to be able to attend the 65th Anniv of the Flag Raising on Iwo Jime Parade in Sacaton, Az home of Ira Hayes.
Attached are pictures that I took at the parade on Saturday, due to the cold & rain my wife and I could not stay for the entire parade we were there for the first 90 minutes of the parade and it was only half done when we left. We were very disappointed that we were not able to stay for the events scheduled after the parade.

Korea 1954
Hey Sgt Grit,
Found this picture of me as a radio-telegraph operator (MOS2533) in Korea in 1953-54. I was stationed at K-3 airbase with the 1st MAW at Pohang Dong which was about 40 miles north of Pusan . Note the painted on stripes…that's how we did it in those days way before the collar pin-ons today.
One Mile Kill Shot
Sgt Grit,
I subscribe to a weekly email from Military.com which includes links to interesting videos. One recent link was to a video called "One Mile Kill Shot" taken from History Channel. In it, the Marine Corps sniper uses a .50 cal single shot rifle to take out insurgents during an operation in Iraq (http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do?displayContent=219051&ESRC=marine-a.nl ). I forwarded this to my dad, retired Marine Colonel Barkley "BB" Yarborough (Enlisted as E1 1943, Retired as O6 1988). He enjoyed watching it and replied as follows:
Prisoner Exchange
Hi,I thought you might like to see a couple of old pictures I found .These were taken in 1953 of the prisoners exchange in Korea. I had some of our guys return but so far can't find them. I forgot I still had these. That old camera I had did a pretty good job.I think the exchange was 77,000 north Koreans for 3,597 of our guys.
Norman and Korean War buddies
Jose, Kneeling is 'Baggs' Marchese & NC. Look closely behind NC's head and you will see a dark object, that's an M-1, aimed at his head by none other than the illustrious 'JOSE',!!!!!! So now the world knows why NC has to drink beer, he was MADE TOO, by being forced by MR. JAG, or otherwise he probably wouldn't have known what beer taste like.
Not everyone forgot about Korea…
Over Memorial Day, I performed a historical tribute to the USMC in the Korean War at our local Missouri Veterans Home. The uniform and gear dates from WW2/Korea and represents a Marine during the Inchon landing. I also have a pretty complete set of winter uniforms as worn by the Marines in their fight out of the Chosin Reservoir.

Here is a picture of my father in law in During the Korean war. After this he was called the canteen kid. I sent this to my son a third generation Marine, a year ago while he was in boot camp for motivation. and his DI's enjoyed it.
