USMC Straight Razors
The first ones came out at the Spanish American War and had USMC stamped on the blade.

The second issue was during World War 1 and had USMC stamped on the reverse side on the tang.

These are worth between $60.00 and $100.00. The Spanish American War razors are fewer and father between and sell for between $225.00 and $250.00

Marine Beach-head
Marine Beach-head
What future Marine would not have wanted to find this under his Christmas tree in 1960. Made by Marx Toy Company who at that time was the largest manufacturer of toys in the world. Unfortunately the set did not contain any enemy soldiers. That would come later with Marx?s Iwo Jima set when they produced some very accurate Japanese soldiers. This set comes with several sets of soldiers and Marines in different colors. I guess you were supposed to have them fighting each other. If you hide the missile launchers and helicopters you can make believe you are at Tarawa. I wonder how many WWII Marine dads bought this for their sons. If you happen to have kept your childhood toys and happen to have this set you will glad to know it is worth $300-$600 if complete.

Sgt. Grit,
Concerning the article about “Scheit-on-a-shingle” in the 31 December news letter.
I lost an old friend two years ago,Marty Norman, who was a cook in our beloved corps and served from 1939-the mid 1960’s
He gave me a copy of the official USMC recipe for SOS a few years ago that I would be happy to share with you for publication in your newsletter if you would like it.

Met my DI after 40 years
Thank you Sgt. Grit. Your newsletter put me in touch with my Drill Instructor Sgt. Dickerson. I had not seen him since the day after graduation in March of 1970. We met last week while I was on a business trip to Texas. We had a great reunion and a wonderful dinner. Again thank your for your good work. Now get busy and find my other two Drill Instructors, SSGT Fredricks and Sgt Wrin. If there are any other Marines out there that I served with I would love to hear from you especially anyone from Plt. 1229
