The same playbook has been and is still used against the cops today.
When dealing with the enemy, the mob, they are told to stand down.
No tear gas, pepper spray, batons, or harsh language can used against the mob.
The cop become disheartened as the mob gets boulder. End result. Cities lost. All demonrats too.

In an extraordinary condemnation, the former defense secretary backs protesters and says the president is trying to turn Americans against one another.” Some Marines have questioned my partiotism, because I see the glass half empty; but the burns I have carry are proof that I was there and saved lives when I could. Biden said he will accept the result of the election; either way it goes. Trump on the other hand said he will not accept the result if he looses. This same question was asked 140 years ago when Abraham Lincoln was elected. Then it was answered by anger and civil war. As the first person to reply to this post, it has been interesting to read the responses, both republican and democratic, at this very pivotal point in our history. Please allow me to offer one other alternative. As a career Marine, I have always, and still do, consider myself an independent voter because I always voted absentee. But very early in my career I found the following poem by Max Ehrmann which made a very deep impression on me. I still try to follow it’s tenets, and offer it for your consideration:

I was in Danang Vietnam (1967-1968) Corp. E-4 6316 J-52 jet Eng. mechanic. The first 2 months I was there, every night we sent out 6 fully loaded A6’s with 28 500 lb. bombs headed for N. Vietnam. Those months there were no attacks on the base. Then some spineless politician decided to stop bombing the north. Two weeks later all hell broke lose. We were hit every night with rockets. We could have won that war if we keep bombing the north. We would be 3-1- 0. Now we are 2-1 -1. (that’s 2 wins 1 tie Korea and 1 loss Vietnam. It’s looks like we are losing another one. (the middle east) I just hope that not to many of my brothers & sisters have to die needlessly like they did in Vietnam.

As the son of a 30 year Marine, My father retired as a MGY/SGT. He was active duty from 1942-1972 & served in WW11, Korea & Vietnam. He was as Gung-Ho as any Marine & he is probably turning over in his grave seeing uninformed or misinformed US Marines voting for a socialist/Communist agenda. Both of my parents voted Democrat yrs ago, before voting for Reagan in 1980. I agree with you, I don’t support Trump and wouldn’t vote for him either. Trump only supports dictators and communists. For example, Kim Jung Un and Vladimir Putin.
I graduated from high school and went straight into boot camp (San Diego) right away, but was too late to have served in Vietnam. My older brother, also a Marine, did go there and while he didn’t speak much about his time there, I know that he was at Da Nang and Quang Tri Province near the DMZ.
When he came back from Vietnam, he was greeted by some anti war protesters who spit on him and called him names like baby killer and other similar epitaphs. And the ‘peaceful protesters’? They are all on the left. Isn’t it interesting that the ones who are the ‘peaceful protesters’ are those that are really the intolerant ones. They are the ones that burn the flag. They do the spitting. They are the ones who called the Vietnam veterans all the vile and disgusting names.
And even now, the left are the ones preaching the hate. The left are the ones who want to de-fund the police. The left wants to open the border to everyone, law abiding and the lawless alike. The left are the ones rioting.
If you are on the left, I have news for you. I am one of the SOB’s who is voting for Trump. But fear not, leftist racist snowflakes.
