So Allie was an IDD dog which is an "improvised explosive detector dog" she did 4 combat deployments with Marine units. I was her handler from January 2011 to October 2011. We were deployed to Sangin Afghanistan from late march 2011 to October 19th 2011 with 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. She recently was retired from active duty where I was contacted and adopted her from the IDD program where I had to pick her up in Jackson Springs, North Carolina. Now she's just relaxing and living a dog's life.
Memories of my time in service.

I was a radio operator and stationed at Camp LeJeune H&S btry, 4th Bat, 10th Mar. The year was 1954. My question is, what happened to the 10th Mar. Regiment?
My dad was a marine in 1920, my older brother 1952 to 1955. Served 2 tours over Korea. My younger brother joined me in the 10th in 1955. My oldest son served 4 years.
At the Book Barn in CT, one of our customers came a copy of the Sgt Grit Newsletter (Volume 1). That was published over 13 years ago! The newsletter is delivered weekly by way of email to over 38,000 subscribers. It contains war stories, service memories, and images that display Marine warriors that set the standard, and carried on the traditions that make our legacy so legendary! Check out this week's Sgt Grit Newsletter – 13 Nov 14: I Am A Marine, One Man Bunker.
Being stationed on a weapons station in Goose Creek, South Carolina we had pretty good security. But we also had a facility that had civilan workers coming and going through the main gate mostly, but at peak hours we opened a morning/evening rush gate to ease traffic. The Station was heavily wooded and just covered in some of the best looking deer, turkey, etc. to be found around the Ashley river.
We bought these baby dress blues from you before this little guy was even born. I am so proud of my Marines and hope that the little one follows in Pop's and Dad's footsteps!

Here are a couple pictures of me going through Seoul, Korea. One from 1953 and one from what it looks like today. I was in 4.2 Mortar Co. and in SDMD, Platoon 16…

It has been 44 years sinse we last saw each other, but we finally made connection. We were in Viet Nam together in 1969-1970 hill 34 An Hoa. We were with 1st 175mm Gun Btry, Self propelled. It's been a long time, but here we are. We live just 225 miles apart so now we can see each other more often.
