When it came to assignments in the Corps I never caught much of a break. Out of boot camp I got Aviation Ordnance School. (not many civilian uses for that knowledge). I finished 2nd in the class but never used the skills. When I made my 1st muster with H&MS-24 at Cherry Pt., the Capt. asked if anyone could type.

50th Anniversary Of Arriving In DaNang
Sgt. Grit, I arrived in DaNang on Aug 26, 1966, 3 months shy of my 20th birthday. I still remember the flight from Okinawa and looking at my fellow Marines and wondering which one of us was coming home. Fortunately, most of us made it. I found this travel voucher from October 1966.

A few years ago I worked at a company that made carpets for automobiles. I worked evening shift in the Engineering Center programming a robot that cuts samples for different automobile manufacturers.
Memorial Day And Rolling Thunder 2016
I visited the National Museum of the Marine Corps this year. I just stopped and stared for a few minutes… Amazed at this Beautiful sight… the closer I got the more tears I had. I could have turned around right then after these photos and walked out being totally at Peace with the Museum.
Looking For Squadron Mate
I am looking for anyone who knew, or served with Lt. Larry Helber (F-4 RIO), VMFA-334, DaNang, MIA 23Jan66. I have become close friends with his family and his children want to talk to anyone who may have known their father. Last year, I rode a bicycle from MCRD-SD to MCRD-PI to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund and dedicated my ride to Larry’s memory.
TAPS For LCpl John Payne
We learned today with great sadness of the death of my Marine Brother LCpl John Payne, of Folson, LA. John received a new lung through the Madison, VA hospital in December of 2013, five days before I received mine. We both had Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Summer Of Love
The Summer of Love was a social phenomenon that occurred during the summer of 1967, when as many as 100,000 people converged in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco. Although hippies also gathered in major cities across the U.S., Canada and Europe, San Francisco remained the center of the hippie movement.
1st Radio Battalion Vietnam Reunion
At one time, these ‘young’ Marines were all members of 1st Radio Battalion, most served in either Kaneohe Bay or Vietnam or both.
We just finished our 2016 1st Radio Battalion Reunion in San Diego, and a great time was had by all. Of course, we visited MCRD San Diego.

While surfing Marine sites on the web I came across this picture of Marines from Co. C, 3rd Shore Party Bn. taken in Okinawa in 1971. I served with Co. A, 3rd Shore Party at Dong Ha, among other locations in Vietnam 1966/1967. When I left Okinawa in August, 1967, Co. C and Co. A were side by side in the same area.
