Once A Marine Always A Marine
I'm a twenty-seven year retiree. I spent a year and a half in the Army, three years and eleven months in the Navy, four years in the Marine Corps, and seventeen and a half years in the National Guard. A few years ago I went on a job interview. This was a trucking company seeking a driver. During the interview the woman frowned upon seeing that I had been a Marine. "Oh, I see you were in the Marine's." She said. "Marine's I have met seem to have attitudes ." I chuckled, "Being a Marine is something you earn." I replied. She fowned once more so I explained it to her. "In Army bootcamp your called a soldier. In Navy bootcamp your a Seaman. In the Airforce one is called an Airman. In Marine Corps bootcamp you are called everything in the book except a Marine. For thirteen weeks you question your ancestery. On the morning you graduate is the first time you are called a Marine. So it's not an attitude. It's something we have earned. So you see I am proud to wear the Eagle, Globe and Anchor of the United States Marines." I left the woman speechless and walked out. Needless to say, I didn't take the job.
60 Years old and 30 past my EAS
Finally got it! Tribute to the Air Wing.
GET SOME!
I wanted a moto-tatt that no other Marine had… So in 2006 I went to fallbrook tattoo right outside of base (Camp Pen) and had this free hand tribal/ USMC piece done! It is by far my favorite tattoo that I have. “I carried, and will always carry the Corps!”

I'm looking for Vietnam Veterans that served in the RVN, specifically in An Hoa, Hai Van Pass, Claymore Pass with K 3/5 in 1968. Contact me at lilredvette13[at]hotmail.com.
MOM Tattoo
My son’s first tattoo after graduating boot camp and SOI school. His dog tag Huber, and mine from when I served Barron.
AN HOA 1970
To all those that spent time at AN Hoa. I was with 2/11 ,1970 until we left and gave it to the ARVN's in Aug. I went back in 2005 and their is not one piece of the base left except a few pieces of the tarmac. Liberty Bridge is also gone, I met a few people that lived in the ville, but An Hoa was destroyed and move a few miles away. It was a great trip and I'm glad I went but never again, twice was enough. China Beach has a 5 star hotel.
Anyone Know Why?
While going through my seabag, I came across a box with all of
my brass… tie clasps, belt buckles, and Eagle, Globe, and
Anchors for the various uniforms. I came across some brass
(yep, I know they need some polishing!), and wondered what/why
the difference?
Still A Hard Charger
Dear Sgt Grit:
Enclosed is a picture of CPL Cyla Barron Huber. Now what is
annoying about her is that this is a very recent picture of her,
20 years after she was on active duty, and she still fits in her
blues and looks like she is in her early 20's. That said… She
is still a hard-charger.
