The old and the new Beirut/Med. float jacket ’83.

I am a Marine Corps Beirut vet: Feb.-May '83 & Oct.-Nov.'83. When I started going to the Beirut memorial here in Boston,Mass.,my son had asked me why I didn't wear my Beirut Med. cruise float jacket. I had told him that it was now a FEW sizes to small (ok,yuk it up jarheads.lol). Well, after that,my wife and 2 kids started asking me all the places I had been while in the corps and the dates. I thought that they were just humoring this old jarhead again. On X-mas 2008,they had given me my new Beirut/Med.cruise float jacket. I was absolutely blown away. They even incorporated the 9 gold stars around the '241' which represent,of the 241"brave peacekeepers" killed that day,9 of them were marines from my homestate of Mass. I am definitely one blessed husband, father and marine. I would like to thank my beautiful wife of 25yrs. Denise,my daughter Bianca,my son D.J.II for all of the love, effort, time and dedication that was put into the design of this beautiful jacket. And most definitely a big shout-out to my extended Marine Corps family "Sgt.Grit". Every single patch on my new float jacket is from Sgt.Grit. Beirut veterans' motto: "The first duty is to remember". To ALL of my 'Beirut brothers'…you will never be forgotten. Semper fi and Godbless. read more

Your Patches On My Shirt

I wanted to thank for making so many Marine items available. I've been riding motorcycles for years and I added a four inch patch on my last riding shirt and got quite a few comments. SO, I found this OD shirt at Cabela's and my wife added the patches I ordered. She also added the yoke design because "Every where we go, people want to know who we are, so we tell them". My only regret is that I forgot my single hash mark. I only did one four year enlistment so I never got to put one on my uniform. Hope I'm not breaking too many laws by wearing my rank insignia.  read more

Drum Corps International Tour of Champions

Kristy, we had a great time at the Drum Corps International Tour of Champions last Sunday. We had a drawing for the K-Bar among the Marines and Doc Sweet won it. He is the Olde English Leathernecks Detachment member. Hs is kneeling in the front row, second from the left, holding the K-Bar box. We did a reverse drawing with the names in a hat and the last name drawn won. As each name was drawn, they received a 2011 MC Birthday coin, the last of the ones you sent last March. read more

Patches

Dear Sgt Grit,

I just wanted to share a gift from my father Jim Daneker for my retirement from the Marines last summer. He purchased all the patches he could find from Sgt Grit and had the plaque made in our hometown. It displays patches representing my 30-year career and a wonderful display it is! I have it proudly displayed in the “patriotic room” in our home here in Swansboro, North Carolina just up the road from Camp Lejeune. read more

Near My Desk

Kristy,

I rec'd the K-bar & display case and they're beautiful. Our top award winner is certainly going to appreciate receiving those as their 1st place award. This 'trophy' is the most coveted of any award. Our entrants talk constantly of the 'Marine Fighting Knife' that the Marine Corps League awards to the top place car. We again are so grateful to you and Sgt Grit for so graciously donating to our cause each year. read more

K-4-13 Reunion Association

Greetings,

A couple of months ago, I was thumbing through your catalog when I saw the Guidon Patch. I decided to order some. Unfortunately, the design is the "New Corps" design (USMC), and I wanted the "Old Corps" design, (FMF) for the K-4-13 (RVN) Reunion Association. I contacted Ms. Lam, provided her with a picture of the guidon from our last reunion, and ordered 25 patches. She sent me the art work for approval, and I ordered 25. They patches arrived today and are outstanding! read more
