USMC Mud Run for Blake

Sgt. Grit,

The Marine Corps Mud Run in Columbia, SC honors Marines and their families, with generated funds going to the Marine Corps Foundation. This was my 3rd year doing the course, this year in a limited way due to recent knee surgery (no obstacles), but we were all committed to doing it in honor and memory of Navy SCPO Blake McLendon. While we've done the course in Sgt. Grit purchased Marine Corps t-shirts, we ran it this year with shirts made to commemorate Blake. Next year we'll be back with your t-shirts! read more

Semper Fi Tommy Batts

Sgt. Grit,

Before I proceed on the subject about which I'm writing to you, I would like to assist fellow Marine Kent Yates. In his story found in the Sgt Grit newsletter dated October 20th, he was trying to remember the ITR camp at Camp Pendleton. That would be San Onofre or 52 area. In the 80s and 90s it still had the old corrugated steel Quonset huts. The only camp farther north of it is Camp Mateo (62 area). The home of 5th Marines and 1st Combat Engineers. I was in 2/5 when we made the move from Camp Margarita (33 area) to Camp San Mateo (62 area) and 7th Marines moved out to 29 Palms. read more

5th Annual 1st. Lt. Jared M. Landaker Memorial Run for Freedom

On Feb. 7, 2007, a Casevac CH-46, Morphine 1-2,  was shot down on their last flight in Iraq, killing all seven on board. The Seven Stars Foundation, Inc. was established that day to carry on the mission of these crew members. We have a 5,10,15k, Run/Walk/Stroll at Snow Summit in Big Bear Lake, CA the last Sat. of Sept. We are holding our 5th Annual on Sept. 24 this year. The proceeds go to the Camp Hero-46, a camp for children of the fallen military at Camp Whittle in Fawnskin, Ca. With the anniversary of 911 approaching, this is a great opportunity to support our military and their families and those who gave so much for our country. Log onto our website:www.sevenstarsfoundation.com for more information on our event and how to register. read more

Memorial for a young Marines in Nashville

I am submitting something I wrote after joining a couple thousand people (mostly veterans) standing outside the memorial of a young Marine from Nashville Tennessee last week.  And the images are from that day also.

The images and sounds of  Monday, June 13, 2011 will be with me for a very long time.
I have never in my life seen so many veterans and waving flags, or heard the thunderous roar of so many motorcycles as I did while I stood in front of Woodmont Hills Family of God Church during the memorial for Sgt. Kevin B. Balduf.   read more
