Sgt Grit. A friend on mine gave me this Post Card from USAA. It is a Memorial Service held after the Bn came off line. Each time we would come back to a Reserve Area we would hold a Service for all the Marines we lost in the last engagements.

I would guess that the Marines at Present Arms were the Squad or Fire Team Leaders representing the KIA. I did not know if you would like it and maybe add it to your News Letter or a filler for one of your Catalogs . read more

Just sharing some pics…

I was in the Corps from 91-98, and in '03 I joined the Army Reserve, and in '05, I went active duty Army and got shipped off to Korea. Well, I'm out of the Army now due to a torn up knee, but I really miss the "good ol' days." They didn't have digital cameras when I was in Okinawa, but I didn't blow my chance when I got to Korea. I knew the tight relationship and history between the USMC and the ROK Marine Corps, and when our KATUSA's (Korean Augmentation To U. S. Army) learned that I had served in the Corps, I got alot of attention. I learned that even though the Korean people are peace-minded and tend to shy away from military actions, they have an intense pride in the ROK Marines. There's ROKMC souvenir stores everywhere, and every one I visited had ROKMC veterans hanging around swapping stories. Sound familiar? read more

Not everyone forgot about Korea…

Over Memorial Day, I performed a historical tribute to the USMC in the Korean War at our local Missouri Veterans Home. The uniform and gear dates from WW2/Korea and represents a Marine during the Inchon landing. I also have a pretty complete set of winter uniforms as worn by the Marines in their fight out of the Chosin Reservoir.

Honor Flight Long Island

Hey Sarge,

Where else can you spend the day hanging out with a Marine who landed on Iwo Jima, a soldier who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, a seaman who survived Pearl Harbor and a pilot who flew 112 combat missions in Europe and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross?!
www.HonorFlightLongIsland.org
gave me that chance. Check out the website to see what it's all about. On this day, I had the honor of escorting Harry S., veteran of Iwo Jima, to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington. read more

Pictured from left to right are GySgt Robert Munson (in Desert MARPAT), Leo Champagne, and GySgt Tompkins (Woodland MARPAT) Mr. Champagne was our Guest of Honor for the Homecoming weekend. It kicked off with a assembly honoring Mr. Champagne then a speech by Mr. Champagne. Meeting Skip Adams

My name is Cpl Owen King of the New Century Young Marines. I am 11 years old. May 27-June 5, 2010, our troop took a trip to Washington DC.

Tuesday night we went to the Iwo Jima Memorial to witness the 8th and I Silent Drill team and Sunset Parade, but, unfortunately it was cancelled. That was a real bummer. But, we did meet a Marine that survived the Iwo Jima attack. His name is (Harold) Skip Adams, he is 83 years old. He came over to us and took the time to talk to us, about Iwo Jima, about the raising of both flags on Mt Surabachi, drilled us, and took pictures with us. It truly was a once in a lifetime opportunity! I know not too many made it out of Iwo Jima, and the fact some are still alive, was absolutely amazing to me. He was a very interesting man. He deployed with the 5th Pioneer Battalion, B Co of the 5th Marine Division. He landed on Red Beach One the morning of 2-19-1945. read more

US vs. THEM

Sgt,
Here's a couple things. No rant this time. I was in the LRS (logistics readiness squadron—-vehicle maintenance) shop today. I was waiting around for service and I noticed something. Us (USMC) vs THEM (AIR FORCE) I read a report (again) the other day about HMLA 367 Scarface in Marble Mountain Vietnam (my squadron) as how in a COMBAT zone at one time they had 100% AIR CRAFT up and flying. That's US. We strive to attain 100 percent efficiency in everything we do. read more
