Mounted Color Guard Albuquerque 1971

Marine Corps Recruiting Station mounted color guard in Albuquerque, NM, was formed in 1970-72 to assist with the recruiting efforts throughout the state. The four Appaloosa horses and a special trailer, with all the equipment and McCollum saddles, were donated by a former Marine Korean War Veteran who was very patriotic and wanted to see the Marine Corps succeed, and to carry on the tradition of our mounted Marines. They traveled many miles riding in parades and personal appearances. This was the only Marine Corps mounted color guard that ever existed in the state of New Mexico. read more

Visiting Camp Lejeune

What a pleasure it was to meet the Marines of Camp Lejeune N.C. as I attended the Marine South Expo. I had always been west with my husband so this was my first time experiencing the East Coast and I have to say I loved it! Here are a few pics of some of the people I met. read more

Marine Corps Engineer Monument Dedication

On May 14, 2014, active duty, former, reserve and retired Marines will gather at Semper Fidelis Memorial Park at the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC), located just south of the main gate to Marine Corps Base, Quantico on US 1. Their mission will be to dedicate a monument that will serve as a tribute and memorial for all past and present USMC engineers and related occupational specialties. It is fitting to dedicate the monument because Marine Corps engineers have been serving for over 100 years since establishing our first organization, Company H, 1st Regiment, 1st Advance Base Brigade, formed in 1913. Marine engineers have served well and faithfully from then, up to and including recent service in Iraq, Afghanistan and recent disaster relief operations in the Philippines. read more

South Dakota Vietnam War Memorial Dedication

My name is Ron Nelson. I served time in the Marine Corps from 1973-74. I’ve been a photographer for 37 years and belong to the American Legion and just recently the VVA Chapter in Watertown, SD.

The photograph was put together after attending the South Dakota Vietnam War Memorial Dedication in 2006. I came home with many images of the event. Not a single image really told the story of what happened those three days in Pierre, SD. When I got home on monday, I sat down and looked at the images I had taken. My inspiration was to create something that all Veterans of this era could remember from that weekend of healing. The image was published in many newspapers around South Dakota after I had finished it. The calls and letters from Veterans and family members wanting to have a copy of the print was overwhelming. read more

Camp Pendleton Mounted Color Guard

I had the distinct honor of having served as a Corporal of Marines and a Right Guard Rider on the Camp Pendleton Mounted Color Guard 1978-1979 while serving with the 2nd Bn, 5th Marines and HQ Co, 5th Marines (Col Anthony Lukeman was CO).  I saw a picture of the color guard here, but can't seem to find a "category" to go with it.  Seeing pictures of El Noche, Echo Bar and Columbian (aka: Fat Man) brought back so many proud memories of the parades and ceremonies we had the honor of participating in.  Not since the 1900's can many Marines say they were "Horse Marines"! read more
