Vietnam Service Ribbon Knife

Sgt Grit,

I want to show you what a guy in Southern Missouri did for me. I sent a
plain Jane Kershaw Leek to him and this is what I got back. The handles
are Culpepper dyed bone and I'm sorry, I don't know how he applied them
to the knife other than the obvious screws. The Viet Nam Service Ribbon
design for the custom handles was inspired by some SFO (Special Factory
Order) Case knives Shepherd Hills Cutlery was selling. read more

The Marine

This is a poem being sent from a Marine to his Dad. For those who take the time to read it, you'll see a letter from him to his dad at the bottom. It makes you truly thankful for not only the Marines, but All of our troops.

THE MARINE

We all came together, Both young and old To fight for our freedom, To stand and be bold, In the midst of all evil, We stand our ground, And we protect our country From all terror around, Peace and not war, Is what some people say. But I'll give my life, So you can live the American way. I give you the right To talk of your peace, To stand in your groups, And protest in our streets. But still I fight on, I don't bitch, I don't whine. I'm just one of the people Who is doing your time? I'm harder than nails, Stronger than any machine, I'm the immortal soldier, I'm a U.S. MARINE! So stand in my shoes, And leave from your home. Fight for the people who hate you, With the protests they've shown. Fight for the stranger, Fight for the young. So they all may have his greatest freedom you've won. Fight for the sick, Fight for the poor. Fight for the cripple, Who lives next door? But when your time comes, Do what I've done. For if you stand up for freedom, You'll stand when the fight's done By: Corporal Aaron M. Gilbert, US Marine Corps USS SAIPAN, PERSIAN GULF July 23 Hey Dad, Do me a favor and label this 'The Marine' and send it to everybody on your email list. Even leave this letter in it. I want this rolling all over the US and Canada and the World. I want every home reading it. Every eye seeing it, and every heart to feel it! So can you please send this for me? I would but my email time isn't that long and I don't have much time anyway. You know what Dad? I wondered what it would be like to truly understand what JFK said in his inaugural speech. ‘When the time comes to lay down my life for my country, I do not cower from this responsibility. I welcome it. 'Well, now I know. And I do.. Dad, I welcome the opportunity to do what I do. Even though I have left behind a beautiful wife, and I will miss the birth of our first born child, I would do it 70 times over to fight for the place that God has made for my home. I love you all and I miss you very much. I wish I could be there when Sandi has our baby, but tell her that I love her, and Lord willing, I will be coming home soon. Give Mom a great big hug from me and give one to yourself too. Aaron Please let this marine (and all our military)know we care by passing his poem onto your friends even if you don't usually take time to forward mail… Do it this time! Thank you. Let's help Aaron's dad spread the word….. read more

Marine Corps Scuba Divers

I was wondering why I can not find any information related to the USMC scuba divers that were in C- company 3rd or 1st MP Battalion Viet Nam 1967 to 1970. We helped in guarding the bridges from China Beach to Da Nang. Attached are a few pictures of me and some of the other divers. Would love to hear from anyone who was part of the team. Thanks! read more

Black Flag Day 29 Palms, 2 for every 1

One day in Comm. School while outside for equipment instruction on a "Black Flag" my Sgt. challenged us to a push up contest. I popped off and said I could do 2 for every 1 he did. The gung-ho Jr. Jump School Sgt. dropped and struggled to crank out 50 pushups, all he had, and in the scorching heat. The class crowded around to witness my move. Sgt. jumped up and said drop and get some. I dropped and did 2 pushups and got up, he looked stunned as did everyone else. Sgt. said you owe me another 98 private, I said no I gave you exactly what I said I would, 2 for every 1 you did. Pissed he began to scream at me to get down and get ‘em done. So I dropped pumped out 75 when our Gunny came over and chewed the Sgt's butt and wanted to know why he was making me train on a "Black Flag" day. Gunny continued yelling about how my Sgt. had better get me up, get me in the shade and get me something cool to drink so I didn't over heat and end up with heat stroke. Trust me I was fine and I could have done the 100, but I milked that moment for as much as I could. I even had my Sgt. tell me that I was a damn fine Marine! OOORAH! read more

Proud Dad

As a 44 year old man that was too scared to face his call as a teenager, it is so nice to hear someone explain the real truth about the USMC. Like everyone else, all I knew was the hype I had been told all my life as this last year my 9 year old son told me he wanted to join because he saw his future as a United States Marine. I started doing research for him and showing him the real side of the USMC. He has met a lot of USMC Veterans and now has a better understanding of what he is to face and so do I. I regret everyday that I didn't join out of high school. I wonder where I would be today. If I could have made a difference in the world. I know now that the Corps will not change the person you are inside but tweak the good that is in each and everyone of the Marines. I have learned the true meaning of Semper Fi this last year. The local Marine Corps league has taken my son in and are giving him guidance that I never had. I like to think I would have made a good Marine, but I will never know now i am old and broken down man with the life GOD has given me. I strive to improve on it for my children. I thank GOD everyday for the USMC because of them I have the greatest country in the world as my home. I thank each and everyone of you for all you do! Happy New Year and hhhhhhhhhhhooooooorrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaa! read more
