proud sgt

Mr. Paul S. Laskodi, USMC Ret. recently wrote in the last newsletter of Gen LeJeune's signature on a discharge document and it reminded me of a promotion warrant to corporal.

In December 1990, 2/23 Marines were called up in support of Operation Desert Shield/ Storm. I was serving with 2/23 HQSVCO Motor T. We were moved to Camp Pendelton and two weeks later flown to the lovely island of Okinawa. While there we were tasked with becoming the MAGTF and aside from movements to various locals, Korea, Japan, we pretty much remained on the island till the end of the live training excersice in Kuwait. During the later part of our stay a few of us L/Cpl's were put up for Corporal and we went through the riggors of promotion boards. read more

Hand Painted EGA

I know Sgt Grit has a tattoo page and I indeed have my 'Corps' in, but I though y'all would like to see the 'tattoo' I put on my MC tank (BTW, I just rode it cross country). This is not a decal, it was hand painted by a motorcycle guy in Alabama (note the bulldog above the ega, that came from you too.  Thanks again for all your help. read more

Operation Utah

In March, 1966, the Marine Corps lost a good man, a family lost one of their favorite sons and a bunch of fighter-writers lost a best friend.  On March 4-5, LtCol. Leon Utter, the Battalion Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, was ordered into in the village of Chau Ngai in the Quang Ngai Province of Vietnam.  The mission: to engage the NVA.  It was called Operation Utah.  With Utter's battalion was Cpl. Lester Wesighan, a Marine Corps combat correspondent and Cpl. Ken Henderson, a Marine Corps combat photographer/a fighter/writer/photographer team. read more

Oliver North

In 2006, while on R&R in Ecuador, I found this artist who hand carves the pictured artwork. I liked his artwork so much I started having him do stuff I thought was cool. I had him make the Marine logo, and I had my wife pick it up on a later date. I took in Camp Leatherneck to find a deserving Marine to give it to. I just so happened to run across Oliver North while at Leatherneck and I presented it to him for being a lifelong stand up Marine. Here is a photo of me and him. read more

MCRD San Diego, Plt 3042

Sgt. Grit,

20 years ago a few Marines graduated from MCRD San Diego on 09-11-92.  We are coming up to our 20th anniversary of having the honor of wearing our Eagle, Globe, and Anchors.  Little did we know that a few years down the road, America would be attacked on 09-11-01.  Semper Fi to all the Marines that have protected our freedoms, and way of life! read more

Marine Dodge Truck

While getting parts at a Dodge dealership in Spring, TX, we noticed this Marine Truck.  It was a special order by a Marine.  It had quotations by famous people, in Memory of Marines he served with (whose names were placed upon the truck), among the obvious in the pictures.  It was a privilege and an honor just to be able to see this truck.  Never saw it again after that day and I drive down that way every two weeks to the Veterans Center.  Semper Fi Marine! read more
