I served with the 3rd Marine division Headquarters Battalion Motor Transport in Vietnam from March 68 through April 69. Main Base was at Quang Tri. We also had a compound in Dong Ha. Ran convoys to Da Nang and up to Khe Sanh. Was a wrecker driver. Christmas picture was taken in my hooch in Quang Tri. Lots of memories coming back with picture.
I was there from Jan 69 – Feb 70 doing those runs. Based in Quang Tri and did runs to Dong Ha and then to Da nang. All night runs. We did a few Da Nang runs during the day but very few. Our squad was drivers, protection, sometimes at night it was crazy with some of the tracer rounds coming at us. Then when projectiles and other things fall off the truck we would have to jump off the trucks and gather everything picked up and load when the truck returned. Sometimes those rounds flying over your head.
Larry,
Some things we will never forget. My name is Bob Tirado and i was up at Dong Ha during Tet around June 23rd when the Ammo Dump went up. I was in the 3rd marines FLSU Bravo Communications the Dump was about 200 yards away by the Rail road tracks on Hi way one. I picked up a Purple that horrible day but will never forget how the air moved around me. I know you remember because Quang Tri was right outside our base, anyway God Bless you live long and prosper Brother……..
