I arrived in DaNang in mid may of 1967,the first night there we had heavy incoming rounds, mortars& artillary,we jumped in fox holes, well I fell asleep for two days in the fox hole because I had no sleep forthree days prior to getting to DaNang.Well when I finally was awoken by a gsgt,he made me move a pile of dirt from one spot to another then back again. That was my intro duction to Nam before being sent to Cam Lo.

Being stationed in DaNang from May 68 to June69. I remember jumping into a Foxhole in April 69 when the DaNang Bomb Dump blew. We were in those bunkers for 36 hours and those rounds including 1000 pounders and being only 1/2 mile away watching a lot of houches go and waiting for Charlie to show up. Suprised I am not tone deff from all those bombs going off. Was stationed at the lstMAW Air Base.

Once back in the world, it was my privilege and honor to escort a young Marine’s remains (LCpl) home to Fredericktown, OH. He was not yet 21, had a month-old son he never saw, and when killed had only a few weeks left until rotation back to the States. Non-viewable (mortar/artillery). Quang Tri. Semper fi, my brother.
