Late night head call.

Head calls and shower times in boot camp were always a trip. After lights out one night, and because there was never enough time during the day to do a #2, I went to the head expecting maybe a little privacy and a chance to do a #2, but when I stepped through the door way I was surprised to see every stool occupied by a platoon of recruits from the Phillipines. Some couldn’t even touch the floor. Needless to say I had to wait. Hurry and wait. Semper Fi!

  1. Funny story, Joe. It probably happened that way to a lot of people. One of the first lessons learned in the Corps, regardless of era or person, is how to hurry-up and wait. Semper Fi!!! Top Pro

  2. Head call. Reminds me of our plt.’s time at Camp Mathews. We were up at zero, dark 30 like other plts. working the butts or on the firing line but were warned before we got there to secure the light bulbs in the head as they were frequently removed by others during a “midnight survey.” (Winter ’54)

  3. Pretty similar story Joe. Coincidently I was at MCRD San Diego Aug.1969 too; dawned on me that I hadn’t had a #2 since leaving St. Louis a week ago. I made a late night head-call, and I swear I was in there for at least an hour maybe even longer, finally mission accomplished, and it was unbelievable, I agonized and hurt and I produced this huge, well put it this way it looked like a Rugby ball, butt at least I was no longer bloated. A week or two later, I had the opposite problem. I’ll save that hilarious tale for another time. Semper Fi!!

  4. Remember the buckets every recruit was issued! Hmmm, need not say more. 🙂 Semperfi

  5. Funny story, and a familiar one. I was at MCRDSD in ’65. Hurry up and wait became routine, didn’t it? But, at least you didn’t have to run to the head to wait! 🙂

  6. Don’t know about anyone else, but knowing now what I didn’t know then, I wouldn’t mind doing it All again just for SHITS and grins. Harry
