Went in the reserves at Phila navy base in 1955 and went regular in June 1956 platoon 197, My platoon were all from Philadelphia,PA and was sponsered by a radio station, you can imagine what a joyous time we had in the heat and all of our DI's were from the south.
Would never regret doing it of course my neighbor convinced me it was a good idea especially since I was after his niece. He served during ww2 and told me some stories, he served on the canal and was wounded.
I had a decal installed on my Dodge truck that I would like to share, I get a lot of comments and all good. It is great as I drive dow the road and get the high five from other marines. I try to visit all recruiters and show it off and several take pictures to display. It would be great to hear from fellow marines who serve with me. I was assigned to the 3rd engineers and then went to Okinawa in the 2nd pioneers.
