My Brothers

My Brothers

It started with two brother wanting to know what happen to eachother. It only took 20 years and facebook to help bring us back together. We ate the same sand together, laughed together, cryed together, and loved and hated each other together.

On May 12th, 2011 we stood together once more. Older and wiser but still the same. We rented a house in Surf City, NC and it was there that we realized we are more than brothers of a unit or division. We realized we were brothers for life and that our children have many many uncles. Those that couldn't make were there by pictures posted on facebook and phone calls being made. We ate, we drank, we talked, we relaxed, we slept, and we listened.

We listened to the stories of old. The adventures of young Marines in their hayday of the places we went, the bars we called home, and of Camp LeJune which was our home. We went back to that place only to see nothing has changed. Our unit 1/8 was deployed. The Marnines on gaurd duty watching the vehicles and in the gaurd house watching the barracks. The memories flooded back in. We sat in the parking lot speaking of old stories again before leaving.

We wanted to visit our old base but didn't care whether or not we got on, but we did. It was more important for us to be at the Beirut memorial and discovered a great change. In awe we were as we visted the memorial and quietly looked at the name of men and women who are now gaurding heavens gates. For that I salute all of you, old Devil Dogs, new Devil Dogs, and pups who will become our Future Devil Dogs. God Bless America and The US Marine Corps.
