Ontos – First Anti-Tank Bn

Ontos - First Anti-Tank Bn

My first contact with the ONTOS was when I was assigned to 1st
Anti-Tank Bn 1stMarDiv Vietnam July 1967 – December 1967.  Am
including a few pictures of our CP on a hill outside Da Nang in
hopes I will hear from some of the Marines who served in 1st AT
Bn during that period.

I was Bn CommO and because of the shortage of officers at that
time also served as Hqs Commandant, Mess Officer, engineer
Officer, and CO H&S Company.  In December of 1967 1st AT Bn was
disbanded and most ONTOS were attached to 1st Tank Bn which was
headed North to Hue.  This effectively was the end of 1st AT Bn
and I was sent south to Chu Lai as CommO of 9th Engineer Bn.
Hope these pictures bring back some memories and it would really
be great to hear from Marines who were there.

  1. Sir I was also there in the !stMarDiv , H & C. If you were , you would remember me, When I was on Mess Duty, I was put in the potato section. It was mess, After kleaning it up, I started putting out a lot of the Vegs. Boy did I get a lot of good calls. From the cooks and the staff. Before I left Vietnam, I was sent to Ka-Sn. I was sent home in May. I am glade, that place was hell, I mean REAL HELL. Well, I will be talking to again I hope. Please E-Mail me.

  2. I was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st A.T.’s in Feb-Dec. 1968. I was the radio operator for Alpha Co. We were in Phu Bai the majority of my tour. We then returned to Da Nang and were assigned outpost overlook. During my tour they did send me TAD to Okinawa for schooling. I then became the company embarkation NCO. While in Da Nang they C.O. took us to the beach for steak and beer. Got thrown in the water and hurt my wrist. Had OP duty night and we got hit. Took a little girl to the medics for treatment. They looked at my wrist and took and X-ray, asking how long I had been in country. The next thing I know I woke up on a flight home with my arm in a cast. Never got to say good bye to any of my friends, did not get to take anything home I had collected in Nam. Would love to connect with those guys to see how they are doing. As they say, “life’s a bitch and then you die”. Semper Fi.
