FRIENDSHIP FESTIVAL
Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, opened it’s gates to thousands of smiling community members and U.S. residents for the annual Friendship Festival May 11.
Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji annually hosts one of the largest community relations festivals between the U.S. and it’s host nation friends. The friendship festival is open to all to experience a number of Marine Corps and Japanese traditions, as well as cultural vents.
NEW RADIO SYSTEM ENABLES MARINES TO SIMULTANEOUSLY MONITOR MULTIPLE NETWORKS
The Marine Corps’ radio systems are getting smaller, lighter and more capable.
The Corps plans to employ multichannel radio systems that enable Marines to simultaneously monitor two radio networks. The capability will enhance situational awareness and increase the speed of execution on the battlefield.

On October 26, 2010, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Jonathon Blank, a reconnaissance Marine, with 1st Force Recon, 1st Marine Division was gathering intelligence on a suspected Taliban compound during Operation Enduring Freedom. When they reached their location early in the morning, the compound appeared uninhabited and extremely quiet, generally raising suspicion.
MARINE POOLEE SUBDUES COLORADO HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTER
The United States Marine Corps has confirmed that Brendan Bialy, a current poolee in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program (DEP), assisted in subduing an active shooter at STEM School Highlands Ranch on May 7, 2019.
Brendan’s courage and commitment to swiftly ending this tragic incident at the risk of his own safety is admirable and inspiring. His decisive actions resulted in the safety and protection of his teachers and fellow classmates.

The month of May is designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the U.S. This monthlong observance celebrates the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. and recognizes the hardships and challenges they endured. CATALINA ISLAND AIRPORT RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
From dusk to dawn, more than 90 U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, and U.S. Navy Seabees with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25, paved their way to mission accomplishment while replacing the runway at Catalina Island Conservancy’s Airport in the Sky runway repair project.
“HAARII!” MARINES, SAILORS COMPETE IN ANNUAL OKINAWAN DRAGON BOAT RACE
Marines and sailors representing the Okinawa Single Marine Program competed in the 45th Annual Naha Dragon Boat Race May 5 at Naha Port, Okinawa.
More than 130 teams participated in the three-day festival. Local schools, public and private organizations, and U.S. military community came together and took part in this famous race, also known as the ‘Haarii.’ The SMP team placed first in their preliminary heat.
USNS Lewis B. Puller Christened
General Dynamics NASSCO, on Saturday christened the U.S. Navy’s newest ship, the USNS Lewis B. Puller (MLP-3 AFSB). The ship is named in honor of the late U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant General Lewis “Chesty” Puller, the most decorated Marine and the only one to be awarded five Navy Crosses.
