Sgt./E-5 over three

I earned the “Right” in ’81 out of high school. Never issued but had to buy ($200.00 plus). I purchased mine after I achieved E-4 and was able to wear the blood stripe. Never looked back. I wore them three times and always received looks and a “Thank you”. Was with H&S 1/6 out of Lejeune so I even had the white French Fortegiere on my shoulder. Sharp. I respect all branches…(with a sharp tongue). But we all can’t earn the right… Be safe, be vigilante, be you…and be a Marine!!!!

Semper Fi and God Bless,
James

      1. The white cord worn by the US Navy is properly called an ‘aiguillette.’ There’s several colors and configurations, depending on the duty. Marine officers standing duty as aides to flag officers, SecNav, or the President will wear a distinctive aiguillette.

The fourragere is unique as the colors are derived from the French Croix de Guerre award ribbon.

  1. Both the 5th and 6th Marines are authorized to wear the fourragere. I believe there was also a separate machine gun company (obviously no longer in service) authorized to wear it as well. Due to it’s distinctive color, it probably looks slightly better on greens than dress blues.
