Sgt Maj Spencer

I was in 9th Mar Hq Co Tow Plt back in ’86, ’87 and Sgt. Maj. Spencer and the Regt CO used to take the plt out in CTA on hikes. Which was no big deal except the little hikes happened to be on Saturday morning. Hung over and disgruntled young Marines don’t feel much like sounding off, which one morning pissed off the Sgt. Maj. and he said something I’ve never forgot. He was chewing everybody out and he said “Be somebody, get involved”
I just read the article titled Sergeant about the mobs and riots in some of our cities and how pathetic it is. And all the responses to the article basically were the same – a lot of shit talking but no suggestions for any actual action.
How about forming local veterans groups to stand up to those antifa communists? There already are base groups like The Marine Corps League, The Legion, The VFW to name a few. I read about a Marine Corps veteran being harassed by those scumbags in Portland and a squid vet who tried to help him get a good beating, I just wonder what the hell is wrong with us? Apparently politicians and law enforcement in some spots in our country are unwilling or unable to uphold and defend the constitution against domestic enemies, maybe it’s time for us vets to stop talking trash and get ourselves organized, get involved and do something.
Start a chain of communication (and command) of vets within your own community and then communicate with other cities etc.. You senior NCO’s can communicate within your own veterans groups.
Or we can sit back and whine about how things are and what should be done and talk trash until Portland or Seattle comes to your town. Then it may be too late.

  1. There is a right way, and a wrong way to handle this, the wrong way is to sink to there level, the right way is to vote out the career political people that support these scum bags. We do not need a full blown civil war. It might come to that, but I hope not. Had an Old Salt Plt. Sgt. that was getting close to rotating out and looking forward to retirement. Before we left for an op he would say,”what’s the best way to survive a fire fight? Avoid it! ” Bill 0331

    1. And they’re trying to take that vote away with misinformation on all of TV except blocks and all the newspapers so your vote won’t mean much the only thing they understand is what they’re doing they have a great plan until they get a punch in the mouth

    2. I hear you Bill. Agree! Vote these people out! They are enabling this sad movement! I like your Sgts attitude! Nick 0311

  2. There are LEGAL local Malitias to get involved in. As in all things unity is the key to make an organization work. Marines always bring a lot to the take in everything they do. And remeber just as in the Corps, nit everyone is perfect…so be prepared to accept some imperfect people striving to be better! Semper Fidelis…

  3. As a combat 0331 in ‘Nam (66-67), Echo 2/4, I am with Duane! Socialists are doing their best to take down our society and what I hear from overseas – China is ready! All Biden wants is to disarm us and who knows what else (in reality). I doubt that Trump will win and I’m not sure he should. Not going to say more on that!!
Our country is starting to collapse, we really need to take action! Remember – talk is cheap!!
    Semper Fi, until we die!

  4. After the Marine Corps, I became a deputy sheriff, promoted to sergeant and was placed in charge of what was then called the Tactical Squad: 30 deputies assigned to crowd control. We handled anti-war demonstrations, sit-ins, marches and out-right mobs during the early/mid-70’s. We were frequently deployed as mutual aid (TAD) t other cities and counties.

Over time, I learned a few things: There are folks who believe in what they’re doing and are simply exercising their First Amendment rights; this tends to be the majority of most demonstrations.

There’s a smaller group that are opportunists, looking to damage property and fight (not unlike some young Jarheads on liberty).

There’s a group – actually a mob because there’s no leader – that look to steal.

The first group, like our Founding Fathers and Minutemen, are doing what our nation should do: Stand against tyranny, wanna-be dictators, fake wars, lies and corruption. The last two are simply criminals but, in the heat of battle, it’s hard to tell wheat from chaff.

Let’s not paint them all with the same brush and, most of all, let’s not rally our military or veterans to oppress the rights of our own citizens. We’re not the same as some South American or Middle East dictatorships.

Lastly, please educate ourselves about what ‘Socialism’ really is … After all, the author of the Pledge of Allegiance [Francis Bellamy] and, some scholars believe, Jesus of Nazareth could be described as Socialists. It’s not a synonym for Communist …

    1. The actual group Black Lives Matter is a marxist organization. The three founders are avowed marxist. See this link:

      https://fee.org/articles/is-black-lives-matter-marxist-no-and-yes/

In this link is a video link of two of the three founders admitting they are marxist. You are correct that the majority of people are uneducated unwilling dups of this movement but there is no doubt the official group itself is anti police, anti American and pro Marxist. There is no doubt that the group Antifa and it’s followers are Anarchist/Marxist bent on overthrowing our system of government.

If you look at history, communist takeovers is always done by the hardcore who use the unwilling dups as their pawns. It’s their game plan

      1. I think it’s important, however, that the article distinguishes between the ideological affiliations of the founders and the great majority of the people trying to raise an awareness about racism. I highly recommend the documentary “Thirteenth” that is available on Netflix.

“It may well be true that in particular conservative circles, everyone is well aware of the obscure history of the Black Lives Matter founders’ Marxist roots. But the average person on the street and the average person who shares the hashtag are most certainly not. And the movement itself has become something much bigger, broader, and more benevolent than the original organization.”

    2. Liberal ideals lead to socialism, socialism leads to communism . We need to be careful. There are some in one of our major political parties that advocate a single party system of government( ie communism ) How do you think the national socialist party got started or the soviet union or the ccp? Paul

      1. I agree with you Paul. Socialism will not work in the U.S. ! That’s not who we are! You didn’t say it ,but I will . The “new” demorat party wants complete control of our everyday lives! They have wanted that since the American socialist party merged, “infiltrated” if you will, with the demorat party in 1977 and that’s when everything started. For all of the older generation democrats reading this, the democrat party that we grew up with and that I was very loyal to , has disappeared, the writing is on the wall ,and statues,. These radicals need to be stopped! Todays Republican party more closely resembles the “Old Democrat” party than we would care to admit, but that’s just me.

        1. Nick,
Just to emphasize what you are saying about the old Democrat party, Hubert Humphrey and JFK were life members of the NRA. The current Democrat party wants to outlaw the NRA. As an NRA life member I don’t see one Democrat I could support. They all want to take our guns.

    3. Williamson T.P. 2545815. Good words and the right ones. Still there is a fire storm coming you know it as well as i do. But what to do and how to do it becomes all of our problems. Voting the bums out will help but for the most part the fire has started. And it’s just going to build if Trump get back in or not. So now what do we do? I ask that because i’m now as we called them back then a “sky pilot.” Proverbs 10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of judgment. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge. In the corp we had great leadership but here in the world that we live in outside the corp we don’t. You are 100% spot on about the few, but it only takes a few to start a war. And a war in our country is something that you and i and other don’t want because we know two many of the wrong people will die. So from your point of view what should we do? And what can we do to stop this “war” as i call it from spreading?

  5. Still think we should involve the Fire Department. From the air. A few flyovers with tons of water would put and end to the party.

  6. Would suggest to stay informed.
Was actively in the Marine Corps, 1 Feb., 1962 through 23 Dec., 1966. RVN, 15 Feb., 1965 through 28 Nov., 1966 serving with 1st. Recon. Bn.
This was followed with a successful civilian life which I owe to the Marine Corps by utilizing those leadership skills as were provided to me.
When I suggest the thought of staying informed, look to become a member within the fraternal Marine Corps Unit in which each of us has served. There are several such organizations available where you will always be welcomed. Check their agenda(s) for re-union dates, etc. For the most part the re-unions generally rotate East Coast/West Coast and generally being welcomed on various hosted USMC bases.
Having said this. Should your re-union be hosted at Marine Corps Base Quantico, most of these functions include briefings at both the OCS and Staff NCO schools. Currently, they are giving briefs on current government contingencies as they apply to the Marine Corps and what we as veterans need to be aware of.
One of these pertinent point-of-views I recently took away from a brief was the current contingency of their monitoring of anarchist activity shared by various government agencies. Basically what to be aware of and what is actually required to maintain a safe perimeter.
The challenge is present. The goal is to be objective and not to over react.

  7. Most law enforcement officers are NOT happy with their chiefs and mayors. The officers want to do the right thing, but are hamstrung by the bosses.

    1. Having served many chiefs and sheriffs, and been a chief myself, I’d ask “what’s the ‘right thing’?” For some people it’s suppressing those who look, act or believe differently than ‘we’ do … For others, it’s about making us ‘safe’ no matter the cost in lives, rights or money; for others, it’s about Law & Order, which usually involves the whole suppression model.

I find the Haves – those with money and power – wnat the cops to crack down on crime, until we started hooking & booking their kids or writing them tickets or busting up their get-rich scams and frauds.

  8. Thank you Marines. The opinions expressed here are very thoughtful and well spoken and full of wisdom. Something we need more of! MARINES ARE THE BEST!! SEMPER FI!

  9. I have one remark and it is from Pogo, you know the comic strip of the 50’s and 60’s that was for kids but so political; “I have met the enemy and it be us.” We have let this happen, we need to clean it up, we need term limits and we need leadership in every State, County, City and any organization that supports Americanism that will stand up and take the Country back from the idiots and those on the free path to the taxpayers money.
    God Bless.

  10. If you are not willing to fight for your country, and it’s constitution, then lay down with the rest of the sheep, or just shut the fuck up.
Remember the oath we all took, to defend this country against all enemies both foreign and domestic.
Socialism isn’t coming to this country, it’s already here ! Yes I believe in a democracy, and I also believe in fighting for my freedom when democracy fails. Semper Fi , means always faithful to God, country, and corps. Try to remember that !

  11. The current situation in this country, ignited when Floyd died of a heart attack while resisting arrest and high on drugs, was started five or six decades ago by the education (indoctrination) in the public school system.

It’s going to take one or two generations of freedom loving individuals, like us, to bring us back to the course set by our founding Fathers.

    Semper Fi Brothers.

    1. Mark,
Don’t fall into a reactionary trap. It’s ok on one hand to say that these anarchist/communist rabal rousers need to be stopped and yet still say that what happened to George Floyd was criminal. That officer is deserving of everything that will happen to him as well as the gutless ones that stood by and let it happen. He wasn’t resisting arrest after having his throat kneeled on for about a minute. George Floyd was no saint but that doesn’t mean he deserved to die.

I do support police reform. I’ve never been in favor of these no knock warrants for stupid illegal drugs. It endangers the lives of the police as well as citizens and for what? A stupid bag of cocaine? The majority of police officers are good public servants who need proper training and a culture from the police leadership and unions that ensures these acts by the few bad ones doesn’t paint them all with a broad brush.

  12. Good comments one and all, also great insight as to the truth of the matter. Positive Mental Attitude: STOP (assess the situation), THINK (take stock of the resources available), OBSERVE (situational awareness), PLAN (select options appropriately), ACT (vote the idiots out, educate others, and work as team). Keep a level head! I too am greatly concerned for our country. We must not only vote these weak ass idiots out of office, we need to expose them for what they are, use the “social media” that they use, and we must overhaul our educational system fully. Get involved in our schools.
Semper Fi! Thom (65-79, RVN 66-68).

  13. I was shocked to see the navy veteran, whom we are told, was participating in a peaceful demonstration, in Portland, beaten with clubs, by unidentified men in unmarked uniforms. This shouldn’t happen in the United States. The first ammendment guarntees freedom of speach. As marines we fought for that right all over the world.
    SGT MARKO, RVN 68-69

  14. Remember how we stopped enemy troop from harassing, shooting., our men. Set up sniper unit with the authority to kill and person the attacks our men with any type of deadly weapons. Took out people this way. Now about these people in Oregon and Washington who likes to aim and fire lasers at any police and all people in authority, molintov cocktails, bricks, bottle chemical thrown at all people in authority. It is considered “assault with a deadly weapon” when these weapons are used. Snipers should be deployed during these riots and assaults. You know the rest. No more troublemakers.
