Sgt Stewart’s 6X6

Sgt Stewart's 6X6

Probably a WC-63 1 1/4 Ton. Used everywhere in ETO served in The Corps from July 1952 to July 1955. Everywhere we went there were four wheeled vehicles called Weapons Carriers. They were almost as common as jeeps. When we were going through training at Camp Pendleton the FMF Corpsman used to drive a real neat six wheeled vehicle when we went out into the field. We called it a Personnel Carrier. One might say it was like a miniature deuce and a half 6×6. I seldom ever saw any more of those vehicles. When I Google USMC PERSONNEL CARRIER it returns a more modern and amphibious vehicle. Does anyone remember the proper name or nomenclature for the vehicle I'm referring to?

  1. My field ambulance with 3rd RECON DAMN THING WENT ANYWHERE under any conditions

  2. That’s what we called the truck a PC drove em while at Iwakuni Japan with MTM Maint Bn 1st MAW MABs 13

  3. First encountered this in 1950 upon joining the USMC and assigned to 1st 4.5 Rocket Battalion. This vehicle was a ‘M-37,6×6, PC/WC. We used it to tow the Rockets carry the gun screw and equipment. And was still in use in 1971 when I retired.

  4. That “thang” is a piece of Army $#!t. Look at ALL of the markings. It has a 7 digit serial # and USA on it. Marine vehicles had a 6 digit # and USMC on them. I served from 1966 to 1996 and was in Motor T as a driver then mechanic and never saw one nor did I ever hear the Old Salts talk about it. I served as a D.I. and 9999 most of my TIS. I do remember the M-37 P.C. a fine vehicle.

  5. Never saw this type of PC during my T.I.S. After my tour in Vietnam (5th Marines M.O.S. 2531) I was sent to Twentynine Palms where I went to every school available. 50 cal school, 1/4 ton school, 3/4 ton pc school, 21/2 ton school. The 3/4 ton pc had 4 wheels and a flat head 6 cylinder engine. This vehicle has tons of torque. Lower the tire air pressure and go anywhere in the 900 square mile base. I always had a dream to own one of these fine vehicles

  6. When I was a Company Gunnery Sergeant aboard Camp Pendleton from 1968 to 1970 I used to check out an M-37 PC when I had business to attend to at one of the outlying areas, rifle range, gas chamber, etc. I preferred it to a jeep.

  7. Obviously this vehicle is Army….Marine Corps equipment was marked in a gold/yellow paint, not white and never had stars. We used shapes, colors and numbers to identify the unit operating the equipment, be it a truck, trailer, tank or howitzer……. Stationed at 2nd MarDiv, 2nd Motor Trans, 1961-1963 we had everything from the old Jeep, new Mitty-Mite, Duce 1/2, to 5ton wrecker & tanker…..Never saw anything like this 6×6 anywhere on base in my two years. We were next to 155’s, in and out of Tanks, etc.. Went overseas, on Navy bases, Nam, can’t say I’ve ever seen one owned by the USMC.
