Grit:
Every Thanksgiving, I think about the Thanksgiving I spent in Vietnam. One of the few I spent away from my family during my life.
For some reason, this year made me think about the meal we had on Thanksgiving Day, 1970 at Force Logistics Command just north of Danang. So after the confusion of dinner yesterday, I pulled out my old boxes of Corps keepsakes and found the Thanksgiving Day Menu.
Thanks for the chance to share memories.
Sgt Dennis Miller, USMC
1969-1972
Thanksgiving 1970 was the first Thanksgiving that I spent with my family since Thanksgiving 1966. Discharged Aug 1970. Harry 1371
I know what you mean I was there, November 1970
Have had Tday lobster in the PI,
Turkey on an aircraft carrier in the IO and turkey in Oki, twice.
All without my family but in the company of my fellow servicemen and women.
May those who have never served understand the sacrifices we make.
Wish all happy Thanks giving Marines RonD. Jesus loves us all!!!
Wow. Thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving Day memories. I, too, was in FLC in 1969 and much of 1970 as a RKF-060 forklift driver and mechanic. Sadly, my brain cannot remember if I was at Camp Books for Thanksgiving in ’69. I took leave for Christmas in ’69.
Happy Holidays to all of my military sisters and brothers.
