Big Influence

To One and All,

I would like to give my thanks to one and all, for your help, friendliness, and dedication to helping your customers. This does not go unnoticed, even when at times I am sure it seems so,
and is greatly appreciated.

I am writing this because this year I decided to attend the Marine Corps Ball in my Dress Blues, while this may be the normal course of action for most Marines, I have been off of active service for 20 years, and have never worn my medals, just the ribbons. I do still fit in my Blues, even though they have seem to have shrunk just a touch between the chest and the waist
over the years. I would not have been able to get my Blues ready without the help of everyone at Sgt. Grit, Semper Fi for everything you do! read more

Leatherneck Tartan

Sgt. Grit,

Enjoyed the photo of the "old guy in a skirt" in your last newsletter. The kilt he's wearing is in the Leatherneck Tartan, which I designed with some input from the Scottish Tartans Society and registered in Scotland back in the 80s. Attached is a photo of my wife and I after the Naperville, IL, USMC Birthday
Ball this year. read more

The Next Best Cake Cutter

So up here in the Northern part of A'stan (Jalalabad), the Veteran Marines outnumbered all eight of the uniformed, but we celebrated anyway, graciously arranged by MAJ Copeland and the local USO. The oldest CPL on hand was born in 1956, to the youngest LCPL born in 1992 (I have socks older than that!)
We had a great time, and blew the 'soldiers' out of the DFAC with our rendering of the HYMN. read more

DaNang 2012

Happy Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day.

It was a perfect, warm day with a cloudless blue sky in Da Nang,
Vietnam. The Marine Vietnam Vets now living in Da Nang celebrated the 237th birthday of the Corps today on China Beach.
We had a good turnout of Marines, Navy and Army as well as
a number of civilian friends. read more

Our Shared Heritage

In August of this year twenty-one Marines from Platoon 2085, Parris Island 1966, gathered in Washington, DC as guests of The Khe Sanh Vets at their 2012 Reunion. We were honored by the presence of our SDI, First Sergeant Ben Leith (USMC Retired) and his lovely wife Jackie who mustered with us from their home in Arizona. read more

Fortunate Enough

Hello Sgt. Grit,

Just wanted to chime in on Marine Corps Birthday Ball pics. In
2007, my wife and I were fortunate to attend the 232nd Marine
Corps Birthday Ball in Fredericksburg, VA for the Combat
Development Command. Commandant Conway and future Commandant
General Amos were in attendance. We were fortunate enough to
have a few laughs with the Generals and get our pictures taken. read more
