Gravesite Of Chesty Puller

After taking my Grandson Vinny to visit a number of Civil War
battlefield sites this past summer here in the MD, VA area, he
asked me if we could visit the grave site of Chesty Puller, whom
he had heard me speak of a number of times. Vinny thought we'd
just take a short trip down the road to Arlington National
Cemetery to visit Chesty's grave site but I told him that Chesty
wasn't buried there, but instead just outside the town where he
retired in Saluda, Virginia in the Christ Church Parish
Cemetery, Christ Church, VA, right on Route 33, named the
General Puller Highway. read more

Honor For Brother

My older brother, retired Navy 1st Class Petty Officer Gary B. Allred, died of liver cancer on Sept 11, 2012. His memorial service was held on Oct. 2nd, 2012, at the Barrancas National Cemetery, aboard Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL. You ask why I am submitting this story, because as his younger brother, I am retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant William A Allred. I served from March 1977 to May 1997. In this picture I am submitting, I had the distinct honor to carry my brother’s ashes to their final resting place. To my right is my brother’s wife, Donna Allred, and to my left is our sister, Connie (Allred) Maddux. The second picture is of some 24 members of the Patriot Guard, who gave their time and respect to honor my brother. We give honor to all of those who have gone before. Brother may you Rest In Peace. read more

MIAs and POWs

MIAs and POWs are very important to me.

When the first MIA-POW bans came out, I went to get one and a woman asked me to get one with her brother on it, I did. His name is, Spec. 4 David Munoz, lost on 5-13-69. He has never been found or returned. I also got another, he is Lt Col Herbert Lunsford USAF. Lost on 7-26-67, I wear these at every Honor Guard Duty I am in and also all Marine Corps League functions, and American Legion functions to honor them and others, who are lost. read more

Another Marine Reporting Sirui

I wanted to send out a tribute to my old, dear friend, Cpl. Lon T. Hunter. "Lonnie" passed away on September 28, 2012, after a short, but valient (and very Marine-like) battle with lung cancer. It came on fast, and took him quickly. Lon was 61. He and I first met in junior high. We became good buddies, double dating, drinking beer underage, etc. Lon got in trouble when he was just about to turn 18, and was given the choice of going to jail or enlisting in the Marine Corps (some of you will remember those days). He chose the Corps. read more

Marine Dodge Truck

While getting parts at a Dodge dealership in Spring, TX, we noticed this Marine Truck.  It was a special order by a Marine.  It had quotations by famous people, in Memory of Marines he served with (whose names were placed upon the truck), among the obvious in the pictures.  It was a privilege and an honor just to be able to see this truck.  Never saw it again after that day and I drive down that way every two weeks to the Veterans Center.  Semper Fi Marine! read more
