Here is a photo of my Scarf which was green in 1966, the year that I join Marine Corps, this item was part of uniforms issued to us at MCRD, I never wore it while I was in the Marine Corps. But, just as Sgt Reeder stated… it was (rayon or ??). This item was a pain in the wazoo during a Junk on the Bunk inspection because it tended to literally crawl off the display. It is 11"x 48". As you can see it is no longer green after 40 plus years and a few washings, I must say that it has come in handy on cold mornings when riding my motorcycle.

Old French Resort BaNa
In your 27 March newsletter, Jim Mackin provided a great report on the old French resort at BaNa which 1st Recon (and 1st MarDiv) used as a radio relay site. I thought you and your readers might be interested in a couple of pictures of the resort as it was in about 1968. It was a great radio relay site and an informal in-country 'R&R' site for war-weary Recon teams.
Looking for People From PLT 1066, Aug 1968
Looking for people who were in plt 1066 @MCRD San Diego Aug 1968, PC SSgt RKU publico, DI's JT Cuff, SSgt Rabenowitz, I left from OKC, OK and flew to Diego, middle of the night met by a screaming man on the bus and then the yellow foot prints wondering what the hell have I gotten into. Changed my life and made me a man. Went to the Nam and then home and got out at the Stumps finished college in '70.
South Dakota Vietnam War Memorial Dedication
My name is Ron Nelson. I served time in the Marine Corps from 1973-74. I’ve been a photographer for 37 years and belong to the American Legion and just recently the VVA Chapter in Watertown, SD.
The photograph was put together after attending the South Dakota Vietnam War Memorial Dedication in 2006. I came home with many images of the event. Not a single image really told the story of what happened those three days in Pierre, SD. When I got home on monday, I sat down and looked at the images I had taken. My inspiration was to create something that all Veterans of this era could remember from that weekend of healing. The image was published in many newspapers around South Dakota after I had finished it. The calls and letters from Veterans and family members wanting to have a copy of the print was overwhelming.
Major Times Three
Here goes…
I was commissioned thru the Regular NROTC program at the U. of Minnesota in 1963 and, of course, joined the Marines. (I decided to be a Marine when I was 8 years old.) I was the SupO for the 2d Radio Bn, then served 2 "wonderful" years of sea duty aboard the USS Wright, CC-2 (C.O. of the Marine Detachment). Then my wife "convinced" me to leave the regulars, and so I went right into the active reserves (Supply Management Officer for the 4th Marine Division; and finally as a Major, Company Commander, India Co, 3d Bn., 24th Marines. (Never went to Vietnam – 2 sets of orders to WestPac (Viet Nam); both cancelled.) I had an NSG top secret clearance, and the Navy NSG did not want to risk Marine junior officers getting captured… which did happen in 1965 …bummer). And LBJ would not call up the Reserve 4th Marine Division. (15 years).
Back For A Visit
I had to chuckle when I read Gunny Rouseau's comments about going back to Vietnam… I spent several tours in-country, as well as a tour with TF Delta in Nam Phong, Thailand at the tail end of the war… I've been back to Vietnam almost a dozen times over the past 7 years or so, landing the first time at Noi Bai Airport on the north side of the Red River outside of Hanoi… The Gunny mentioned BaNa and 1st Recon Bn, so I'm wondering if he may remember a friend of mine who was a platoon/patrol leader with 1st Force Recon Company back about that same time — Ric Miller… Ric was a mustang and a former Vietnamese interpreter on his first tour.

House Mouse
I'm a little late on this story but I just wanted to put my two cents in about K Bars. If memory sets me right I got mine graduation day Oct-31-1966 platoon 2207 MCRDSD for making thru boot camp as a House Mouse (a whole other story). As a house mouse we saw and endured a lot of other things from our beloved DI's that the regular boots did not.
HAWK Hill 327
On May 14, 1967, four sappers destroyed 12 missiles and had our 4000 gallon diesel fuel bladder on fire.
