I'm a little late on this story but I just wanted to put my two cents in about K Bars. If memory sets me right I got mine graduation day Oct-31-1966 platoon 2207 MCRDSD for making thru boot camp as a House Mouse (a whole other story). As a house mouse we saw and endured a lot of other things from our beloved DI's that the regular boots did not.
Pictures attached you can barely see my name stamped with the old rubber stamp kit issued to us.
Thanks,
R. Franco Torres
P.S. As for whiskey, we got a shot of it after giving blood in Okinawa on our way to Nam (3/66).
I was also a House Mouse. Along with Boot Camp Training, I trained on how to take salt and pepper shakers along with silverware from the Mess Hall for the personal use of the DI’s. Fortunately, I was never caught. Shutter to think what could have happened. This must have been training for the art of sneaking in and out of enemy encampments. You think?
