Here’s a Marine standing guard, next to a brick wall that had been hit by some sort of explosion, in what appears to be a dress blue uniform. The year was 1911 in Peking, China.

Sgt Grit is a place where Marines can come and meet other Marines, share tattoos and stories, keep up with Marine Corps news, or shop for USMC gear.

Great picture, LeRoy, where did you get it? I absolutely love these “old Corps” type pictures to see the weapons and equipment of the day. I’m lucky enough to have an original Springfield ’03 and bayonet, but had to settle for WWII M1 cartridge belt. You had to be hard in those days. Semper Fi!! Top Pro
Great photo! Love it! Grandfather was WW-1 Vet Army Engineer one of the first Americans to serve in France. Harry
Wasn’t “dress blue” i believe it was THE uniform
Apparently BCGs are older than I thought! I wore the black-framed “Buddy Holly style” till they became popular again, at which point the Corps changed over to an even uglier brown style. Great for seeing with, I must admit.
That looks like a hot uniform to be standing guard in. It makes sense they would be in a dressier uniform, since they were with the American Embassy, weren’t they? Were field khakis even a prescribed uniform then?
Semper Fi to all my fellow Marines, and oorah to my fellow asian linguists. 12 years and out, 1982-1994.
