3/9 March 8th 1965 made amphibious landing at Danang
Yes, and 1/9 had been on station for 3 months locked and loaded for Vietnam or Korea (did cold weather training in June at Mt Fuji). Since 3/9 was awarded the PUC we also received it and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal which was not subject to MC Order stating both the AFESM and VSM could not be worn, choose one. (Officers were always trying to limit what enlisted could medal display). !/9 went back to Pendelton then went to Chu Lie Spelling? in 1966. I went to Embassy Duty in Saigon and spent two years there before my combat tour with 3/4. Sempe Fi!
